End Of March Metal Meltdown

March 31, 2008 by Scott

The month of March was quite interesting. A lot of great things happened for me and a few great CD’s came out this month. I gave away some cool prizes and the first batch of the MetalMartyr.Com Compilations went out as well. Below is a list of links to some of this months posts that I think are worth a re-run.

The RIAA is still relentless about screwing artist out of money they get from settlements from illegal, Read about it here

I gave a list of My top 10 songs and cds this year. Some are new and some are old favorites. Check them out. Metal Martyr Top 10

I had a chance to check out a great show the beginning of the month and I got video Interviews with All That Remains Phil Labonte (Part 1 and Part 2), Light This City’s Laura Nichol and Ben Murray, and Black Tide.

If you have not had a chance to hear any of the new songs from A Sense of Purpose you can listen to them streaming at their Myspace page. You can check out my quick review of the new CD but honestly if you’re an old In Flames fan then you’ll draw your own conclusions becasue I’m still new to the band.

If you’re not very familiar with In Flames, Metalsucks.net did a great write up on them with the history of the band and even some mp3 downloads from their earlier releases. Look for In Flames A Sense Of Purpose April 1st.

I am Hated Part 2, Metal Divas

March 30, 2008 by Scott

love-hate-baby

In the first part of this article I talked about bands that are hated because they changed styles or just are not really accepted by a lot of metal fans in the community of the huge dysfunctional family we call Heavy Metal. Now I’m going to talk about some of the Metal stars that somewhere along the line thought that they are better than other people and look down upon people, both fans and other bands as peasants in their kingdom of fame. Some of the stars become cocky and self righteous douche bags. Now lets have a little fun and throw some names out there.

I Am Hated!!! Part 1

March 29, 2008 by Scott

hate No, not me…but I’m sure there are people out there that do hate me and/or the things I say when I get a bit cynical. But this is not about me in general. As metal fans we are often one minded when it comes to our favorite artist and sometimes find ourselves turning on the artists we once loved. If a band suddenly changes their style the slightest bit we tend to either like the new direction or totally hate it and start hating that band for changing the music we onced loved and turning it into something that we find is in the direction that we just can’t stand. It happens all the time. Here are a few examples.

In Flames | A Sense Of Purpose

March 29, 2008 by Scott

inflamesasop In Flames Sense Of Purpose is not supposed to be released until April 1st here in the states so when I found it on the shelf at a store that usually doesn’t carry this type of music I was pleasantly surprised and bought it. I know stores are supposed to follow guidelines on releases and this was probably an oversight on their part. Oh well, better for me I guess.

This is the first In Flames CD I have ever bought and I’m really liking it. I have heard other In Flames songs here and there on compilations and I liked the songs but did not really have a lot of interest in the band until I read about them on Marko’s Metal Music Blog and constantly hearing about them on Gigantour press.

Ride For Dime Dio Scammer Foiled

March 28, 2008 by Scott

ridefordime.jpg

As some of you may have heard on Blabbermouth, some scum bag that went by the alias Doug Goldstein has been contacting organizations and venues claiming to be a representative for the great Ronnie James Dio. He tried scamming the Ride For Dime charity and Alabama concert promoter Mat Raymond, offering up the Dio act for clubs and venues and the obvious Ride For Dime Charity event. Both parties put down a deposit check for the chance to have Dio perform at their events and the Ride For Dime even announced that Dio would be part of the show but later reported that they had been scammed and that it would not take place. On a good note both the Ride For Dime coordinators and Mat Raymond immediately put a stop to the check payments and didn’t lose their deposit money.Sooner or later this jack-off is going to get caught and hopefully sued and/or serve jail time for fraud or whatever they can get him on because they have been pulling this crap for the last two years. It’s bad enough they are trying to scam someone in the first place, but to scam a charity is just lower than snake-shit!

If You’re Going To Wacken Open Air…

March 28, 2008 by Scott

It looks as if the great people at this year’s Wacken Open Air Festival in Germany have thought things through and they don’t want anyone to miss out on all the really good bands due to Bathroom and concession visits. They have added Avenged Sevenfold to the line up so you have some time to go empty your bowels and bladders and get refills of your favorite German beers while you attend.
