The Last MM Contest Winner Is…(UPDATED)
May 31, 2009 by Scott
You didn’t think I was going to leave without announcing the winner of the “Melt Your Face Off” contest, did you? That would be pretty messed up on my part.

Over the past two years I’ve got albums to review and the press release that came along with it usually had some kind of description of the bands sound. Sometimes they would say “Like nothing you’ve ever heard before”. I would listen and think, ” That’s exactly like everything else I’ve heard”. Sometimes if it was actually like nothing I’ve ever heard, it was usually something I’d never want to hear again. Sometimes I’ve chosen not to review an album or Ep because I didn’t want to hurt anybody’s feelings or I didn’t even think it deserved a review. This is exactly why I chose the winning comment of the contest. That and it was pretty funny. Read more
The Last Scrap Metal Report And My Farewell
May 30, 2009 by Scott

The last week has been kind of crazy being back actually working for a living. I’ve tried to update here when I can, but time has been tight. This will be my last Scrap Metal Report and my last post. However, this isn’t the end of my metal blogging. As I’ve said before, blogging has renewed my faith in metal and I want to keep updated on it and have an outlet for that. For that purpose I started my new, personally owned blog called HookInMouth.net. If you would like to continue to read my metal bloggings, you’re more than welcome to come by, add it to your RSS or whatever and enjoy. I’m not trying to take anything away from Metal Martyr or the next writer, but that’s where I’ll be doing my thing.
With that said, let’s get on to the last little bits of news I’ll ever publish here.
- Roadrunner Records allowed you to download a new Killswitch Engage track called Reckoning. If you missed it, fear not because you really aren’t missing out on a great song. It’s kind of weak in my opinion. Hopefully the rest of the record will be better but I’m just not impressed with it. Search around and you may still be able to find it.
- Suffocation is supposedly filming a new video for the song called Cataclysmic Purification, which has been up on myspace for about a week or two and will be on the new album, Blood Oath.
- I really don’t know if this next bit is Ozzy’s or Sharron’s doing, but the “Prince Of Darkness” has filed a lawsuit against Tony Iommi saying that the Black Sabbath trademark should be owned equally between the for original band members. Regardless whether it’s Sharon pushing Ozzy to do this or not, it doesn’t matter. He claims that Tony secretly filed for patent and trademark of the name and is the sole ownership of the name, but yet Tony is still selling merch and such with original band members faces on them. You can read much, much more on this story at Blabbermouth.
Well that’s it for me, folks. It’s been a fun time here but it’s time to move on.
A Few Things…
May 29, 2009 by Scott
First off, there will be a few last blogs posts this weekend. For tonight, I’m about to run out to see Testament, Unearth and Lazarus A.D.
The Daath Road report video or whatever you want to call it is annoying and I deleted it. Visit Metalinjection.net if you want to see it.
Lastly, the entertainment folks here at b5 have been working hard on launching the new templates and/or themes with new headers, let them know what you think.
Check back this weekend for more news.

Black Dahlia Murder Majesty DVD Lands #2 On The Billboard Charts
May 26, 2009 by Scott
According to a press release I received from Metal Blade Records, Black Dahlia Murder’s new Majesty DVD has landed on the billboard charts at #2 and #5 in Canada on the Billboard Top Music Video Charts.
Let me tell you, I’ve only watched the first disc with the behind the scenes content and I loved it. If you’re a BDM fan and haven’t got it yet then you’re missing out on a lot of fun.
Here’s what vocalist Trevor Strnad had to say about reaching the #2 and #5 spots on the Billboard Top Music Videos Charts; “We in The Black Dahlia Murder are completely ecstatic about the reception of our first DVD release for Metal Blade Records, Majesty! I won’t lie and say that I had no expectations of the release; throughout its creation I had an inkling that we may be onto something. Having the second highest charting music DVD in the states and the fifth highest in Canada is more than enough proof that I was right! Thank you to the fans…this DVD is dedicated to you and you alone. You are the reason this band stays strong and keeps on going. Our most sincere thanks to our friend and director Robbie Tassaro for his undying devotion to the project. Without him, Majesty never would have happened. Stay tuned to the BDM…big things are on the horizon!”
You can order the DVD or bundle it with a T-shirt or hoodie at the Metal Blade Store.
Snot Parts Ways With Tommy Cummings
May 21, 2009 by Scott
First he’s fired from Divine Heresy and now Tommy Cummings has “parted ways” with the reunited Snot. Guitarist Mikey Doling sent Blabbermouth.net the following statement.
“SNOT is again looking for a vocalist. Unfortunately, Tommy Vext [a.k.a. Tommy Cummings; ex-DIVINE HERESY] has not worked out. Tommy’s a great guy and he is very talented, but after writing for the last five months, there has been a lot of strain on relationships within the band, resulting in the departure of Sonny Mayo [guitar] and Tommy Vext. We wish the both of them the best of luck.
“We are going to be holding tryouts eventually and would like to hear from vocalists with the goods to take the helm as the vocalist for SNOT!!
“Lynn Strait [late SNOT singer] is truly missed. We wish he were here with us today; he was the real deal. Looking for somebody to fill those shoes has proven to be very very hard, but ‘we love to jam’ and will continue doing so!
Here’s a though; start a whole new band and don’t call it Snot. You’ll never find a fitting replacement for Lynn Straight so there is no sense in someone else singing the same songs. New band, new songs.
Stratovarius’ Polaris Is Actually Pretty Good
May 20, 2009 by Scott
Stratovarius have just released a new album called Polaris. I’m going to keep this short and simple as usual. I’m not the biggest fan of power metal. Sometimes it comes over as a bit cheesy, but if there is one thing that power metal has it positive lyrics and usually great musicianship. Polaris is no different.
When I saw the video for Deep Unknown, the opening track from the album I really wanted to go grab a bottle of wine and some crackers. The album is actually pretty good. I wasn’t sure what to expect after hearing Deep Unknown, but it’s good old fashioned power metal from across the pond.
Megadeth Finish Recording
May 20, 2009 by Scott
Megadeth’s Dave Mustaine has left the following message on TheLiveLine.com and sent out an excerpt in Megamail.
“I’m at the studio right now, Vic’s Garage, and we are done! We’re just right now finishing the last couple of notes on the new record, and Andy’s getting ready to pack his bags and head up to Los Angeles tomorrow to get ready to fly back home on Thursday. Man, this has been a long, grueling, enduring process but it’s been so worth it, and I’m so excited. I’m more excited about this record then I’ve been in any record since back in the 1980’s. I would say, probably since, well definitely since “Rust In Peace” there’s nothing that’s excited me this much – maybe “Countdown”, but this is just absolutely insane.”
Listen to Dave’s entire audio message at TheLIVELine.com or call Dave on his Live Line number at (866) 597-6342. MORE
I really liked United Abominations, though it still feels like it’s missing something at times. I hope this album keep it going and takes it up a few notches.
