Cattle Decapitation About to be Blamed for Murders?

August 31, 2009 by Eric J

Bravewords.com posted this report earlier:

cattle_decapitationAuthorities in San Diego County have confirmed that the remains of several bodies have been unearthed in the backyard garden of a coastal San Diego home on Wednesday.

Authorities found the bodies after an anonymous tip led them to the location.

For much of the day Sunday, neighbors tried to catch a glimpse of what was going on as a number of detectives were digging in what appears to be a vegetable garden of the home, located just off Interstate 5.

Then around 9 PM, they watched as several body bags were rolled out on stretchers from behind the home. Those body bags were then driven away by San Diego coroners.

“I thought there was just one. I was surprised to see they kept bringing them out,” said neighbor Josephine Wagacknyk.

After witnessing the disturbing scene, dozens of neighbors were left with even more questions.

But the one thing that was obvious to everyone Sunday night was a strong foul odor which seemed to emanate from the home.

“The stench. [It's a] real bad smell. If you’ve never been around a dead dog or something, then you wouldn’t know. But I’ve been around dead animals so I know it’s pretty bad,” said Wagacknyk.

Although police aren’t releasing the name of the owner of the home, neighbors tell Channel 12 News that the suspect spends much of his time working in the vegetable garden while listening to heavy metal music.

Upon further investigation, authorities found a CD which contained a song titled ‘A Body Farm’ in the suspect’s home; a song from an album that was released by local San Diego heavy metal band CATTLE DECAPITATION. Authorities are looking into this tragedy as being a possible “copycat crime” based on the band’s disturbing music and lyrics.

Channel 12 News attempted to contact the band, but the band’s representatives declined to comment.

The sheriff’s office isn’t expected to release the victims names until the coroner finishes the identification process and the next of kin are notified which is expected to be lengthy due to the advanced state of decomposition the bodies were in.

Great. Just what metal needs, another batch of idiots saying “This person was obviously not disturbed until he listened to ‘A Body Farm’ by Cattle Decapitation, at which point he completely lost his freakin’ mind and went on a killing spree!” The victims’ families will be lamenting the evils of metal music in general, and maybe Congress will want to get involved in a bit more censorship.

Or maybe nothing will happen at all.

Look, this dude (whoever the hell he his) was a psycho before he started listening to metal. The only music that has ever made me want to kill is Turkish pop and pretty much anything by Attack! Attack! or Hollywood Undead.

So what do you think? Will this blow up into some big unnecessary war on metal, or will it quietly go away?

Frontman Dave Mustaine had the following to say:

“Thematically, I’ve never been known to be a silent bystander in a world that needs our participation. As more is revealed about our former President’s legacy, a little-known yet staggeringly frightening document which was signed into law, named ‘Endgame’, has been uncovered. The album ‘Endgame’ is the most energetic music offering I have penned in over a decade and is far more believable than knowing someone signed ‘Endgame’ — the document — into law. The album is also the perfect ‘ass-kicking’ music to listen to once you are done reading the aforementioned document!”

Check ‘em out and tell me what you think!

August 27, 2009 by Eric J

Vocalist Oderus Urungus had this to say about GWAR’s triumphant release:

“We are appalled, shocked, outraged, and completely ecstatic over GWAR’s latest master-work, “LUST IN SPACE” debuting at # 96 in the Billboard Charts…in keeping with my finally confirmed uber-rock star status, I have already vomited on Lindsay Lohan’s puss, visited the the Obama girls, and sodomized Carrot-Top. And there was much rejoicing. But 96? That’s just not going to do it…GWAR and Metal Blade Records plan to keep on with this relentless assault until we go all the way to # 95!”

Lust in Space is available now! Buy it, human!

The Flood – Interview With Vocalist Chris Johnson

August 27, 2009 by Eric J

Chris Johnson, vocalist for The Flood, was kind enough to take some time and answer a few questions for Metal Martyr. The Flood recently wrapped up their 2009 SnoCore tour dates with Static-X and is currently working on their debut album with multi-Platinum, Grammy award winning producer Sylvia Massy (Tool, System of a Down, Johnny Cash, Smashing Pumpkins).

Eric: Hey Chris, thanks for taking the time to answer some questions. First, could you tell us about The Flood? What’s the meaning behind the band’s name?

Chris: We’re a four piece band.  Ajay Marshall on guitar, Jeff Eason on bass, Nate Minick on drums and me, Chris Johnson on vocals.  We are four like-minded musicians, playing with the intent to bring timeless music to those who appreciate emotional music.  There’s a reason bands like Floyd and Zeppelin stood the test of time; they were masters of creating feeling.  There’s never a reason to write a bad song when human emotion is an unlimited resource.  We strive for this level of mastery with every song we write and we hold ourselves accountable to do just that.  As far as our name goes; I wanted to find a name that best represented how I felt about the music.
