Against My Better Judgement…
I once again turned on VH1 Classics last night and for the 6 millionth time, Heavy: the story of metal was on. I only watched a bit of it but it was enough to get me riled. Warrant, a band that I never liked was featured on there. Jani Lane, the only washed out glam rocker that is trying to look normal these days (or at least at the time) was bitchin about how when he wrote Cherry Pie, he didn’t expect it to be a hit. Now he hates it cause everything is cherry pie this and cherry pie that and how he’s the cherry pie guy. He’s not bitchin about how its paying his mortgage and putting his kids through college. Unless he was one of those dumb-asses that sold the writes to the song. He actually said “I could shoot myself in the head for writing that song“. All I have to say is that it’s never too late to make a difference, Jani.
The next part I got aggravated with was how Dee Snider was talking about how back in the 80’s every band was putting a power ballad on a record like it was a standard. Dee, I love ya man but there was nothing wrong with that. Even the hardest of the meta-heads has to show their softer side every now and then. “The Price” may not have been about love per-say but it was a power ballad. Even though it was not what sold Stay Hungry, it was a cool song.
It’s amazing how cool yet stupid the world of music is. I wanted to say the world of metal but it’s not just metal. You have stupid people, hypocrites, and talentless tail riders in every type of music. It also amazes me on what some channels consider metal. Metal Mania on VH1 Classics has some garbage on there. I turned it on and there was Alice Cooper, who is a great showman, but not Metal I don’t care how much make-up and snakes you have. Anyway, it was the song “Man Behind The Mask” from the Friday The 13th Part 6 sound track. It was all corny and full of synthesizers. I was kinda embarrassed for him. Nothing like seeing a decrepit old man in make-up trying to rock out to such a terrible anthem like song to an even worse movie. I need to remove that package from my Directv Subscription.

Yeah, I recently wrote about Jani Lane doing Cherry Pie, then and now. Now it’s just sad.
And, what’s Dee Snider talking about ballads? Wasn’t “You’re Not Alone” a ballad? Good song, though.
