MetalMartyr.Com Exclusive All That Remains Frontman Interview Part 1

March 9, 2008 by Scott

Here is the All That Remains interview I’ve been talking about…well the first part of it anyway. Here is Phil Labonte of All That Remains on March 5th from Charlotte NC show. I’ll try to get the second half up soon. Keep an eye out for the Light This City and Black Tide interview.

I just wanted to share two sort of silly stories here-

Way back in the day (probably 91 or 92) when I used to DJ for WVCR 88.3 in Latham I got a chance to interview FLotsam and Jetsam (remember them??). Anyways the first thing I mentioned was the success of Metallica with Jason Newsted and I asked the Flotsam guys what they thought about Newsted and if they would ever tour with metallica ( Newsted was in Flotsam for the first album). The Flotsam guys got up and left. I didn’t know there was a ” no jason rule “.

Another time I got to interview Overkill. They were headlining a local venue right around Easter. I asked them if in honor of Easter they were going to play ” Deny the Cross “. Merritt Gant, Overkill’s guitarist at the time told me on air that when they wrote that song they weren’t thinking anything anti christian and that I didn’t understand the lyrics. I told him he wasn’t even a member of the band then ( not even a roadie ) so how could he have known what they were thinking. He got up and left the interview. Bobby Blitz, Overkill’s lead singer cracked up and called me a mean muther fucker ( on air, which got me in trouble of a different sort).

    Interviews are fun

    ATR!!!

  2. Scott says:

Thats cool man. I Had a blast interviewing them. I don’t know how unfamiliar you are with ATR but the lead singer back in the beginning of Shadows fall was their lead singer and was replaced by current singer…thats a place I didn’t go during this interview because I’m sure he’s heard it a thousand times. Besides, If he was dismissed by Shadows Fall there would be no ATR…and that would suck. I like both bands but I like ATR a whole lot more than I have ever liked Shadows Fall. And Phil was a really cool guy. I hope to do more interviews. Probably next time with just a tape recorder. Depends what they let me do. I had one on during the interview with Phil as a back up. I forgot it when I left the tour bus and went back to get it…just to realize that when I hit record I also hit the pause button.

I think I got the last CD of F&J with Newsted on it. Death to the deciever or something like that. Obviously I don’t listen to it often. I thought Quattro was a much better record.

  3. I never interview any big band, meet them, but no interviews. atr

  4. KevinC says:

Nice interview, and pretty cool that you got to meet with Phil.
Sadly I never really met with any big bands yet…

    ATR

  5. That Other Guy says:

Hazzah! More All That Remains in the near future! Come to Australia on your next tour damnit!

  6. atr come back to ft. wayne. “Ltc”

  7. KevinC says:

Man…I really can’t wait for ATR to release their next album!

and nice to see that Phil’s into football and is probably a Patriots fan like me. i’m in NJ, so you can imagine how happy everyone was about the Giants winning the Super Bowl. Everyone celebrated except for me. I got so much shit the following day from my entire school. Oh well..next year.
