Black Metal…WTF?

Awhile back I said that I don’t do Black Metal and then here and there I have covered a few things on Black Metal. Not a whole lot. Honestly I have tried to get into some of it but I just can’t. I like a few Dimmu Borgir songs and some old Mercyful Fate stuff, but I just can’t get into it. I don’t know if it’s the sound of it or the gimmick of it all. The “Corpse paint” (I guess they wanted to make it sound cooler than “Make-up”) the crazy decrepit hand gesture you see in almost every Black Metal bands picture or the crazy grimacing faces with the blacked out eyes.
I’m not knocking anyone for listening to Black Metal.
More power to you, your a part of the metal community like the rest of us. I just can’t get into it just like I’m sure there is music I like that Black Metal fans can’t get into as well. But over the years I spent some time in chat rooms here and there and the black metal fans seemed to shun the 
non black metal fans. Calling black metal “True Metal” and shit like that. It’s funny how that works. There seems to be a pecking order when it comes to metal…but no one is really on top are they? It’s always “My
Metal Is Better Than Your Metal”, and hell I’m guilty. We all are. But to me it always seems that Black Metalers always take themselves a bit more serious. In the great words of he who calls himself “Fenriz“, after the singer of the great band Darkthrone “Death to false metal!!” LOL

This whole discussion–the one about who’s “more metal” than who–is best left to the snot-nosed junior high and high school poser kids who think “metal” (or “goth” or “punk” or “emo” or whathefuckever) is a fashion statement that can be bought at Spencer Gifts with Mom’s platinum card. Fuck ‘em.

2. You misused the word decrepit; buy a dictionary. You might also consider looking up the term “proper noun.”
3. Mercyful Fate is not actually black metal.
4. Vader is also not black metal, so why is their picture included? Oh wait, it’s because…
5. You clearly have no idea what you’re talking about.
Before you decide to dismiss an entire sub-genre of metal, perhaps you should actually find out what it’s all about before writing an article about it.

Well..you have some good points. Black Metal is probably just for a smaller percentage of the metal community as it is without doubt the most extreme version of metal out there. Some death metal fans will probably disagree with me on this. Anyway if you want to give black another chance I recomend Immortal, Emperor, Behemoth, Sarkom and Amon Amarth.
It also helps being norwegian like me.
And well have never experienced that someone in norway says that “my metal is better then your metal”, but i think we all can agree that all metall is better then nu metall. nu metal IS false metal.

I like what I’ve heard from Immortal so far. I’ll check out the others as well.
I was too quick to judge something on its outward appearance and a sliver of sound.

Erm… Amon Amarth are death metal. The rest are good suggestions, though. Might want to aslo try Satyricon (especially their newer stuff) and Cradle of Filth (Midian and Cruelty and the Beast especially). Mayhem and Burzum are also worth a look, being founding members of the genre.

Try listening to Watain. The best black metal I have seen and heard. Cow’s blood at the live show and Sworn to the Dark is an amazing record.

I’m a poser because I changed my mind about a genre that I previously didn’t know much about and started actually liking it? I was big enough to admit being a shit and talking trash about something I didn’t know enough about and hear enough of.
I’d be a poser if I smeared corpse paint all over my face, started wearing spikes and leather and claiming that I loved it all along….thats a poser.

So I have returned. Drunk and retarded as always. And I have a statement. After turning on the tv and having to listen to HIM, Cradle of crap and linkin park I have now lost all faith in the future of metal. Fuckers even mispelled Megadeth with Megadeath. When im emperor of Norway i shall make a superninjaassasinationsquad to kill of these fucking bands.
And Scott dont take any bullshit from these wankers. You cant be a metalfan without enjoying all great music out there like Eva Cassidy, Bob Marley etc etc.. Retards who only listen to Metal are narrowminded fools. god damn linkin park…..why do rap and pop have to take over metal?? HEY HO gtg uuh gorgoroth is nice
