Black Tide’s Shockwave EP Review

If you have been following along, you have seen me post press releases for Black Tide, the young thrash metal band out of Florida that has been touring with Avenged Sevenfold (you know how I feel about A7X) and did some time on Ozzfest.
Yesterday I received the 2 song ep. While I feel this band has a lot of potential I do have just one complaint, but I’ll get to that in a second. If you’ve watched the video you can see that they are obviously very young and extremely talented and have that sound of an 80’s thrash band. Instrumentally and vocally they kick ass. What I don’t like from what I have heard are the lyrics. With the songs full of “I am’s” and “We are’s” it all seems kinda…immature. When I say immature, I don’t mean immature as in juvenile and childish. I mean it sounds like I suppose it should, young, if you know what I mean. These guys are young and their lyric development needs some work, perhaps some help from a good producer or a veteran (metal) song writer.
Other than the lyrics, they have a great metal sound and I think if managed well, Black Tide could go a long way.

I was expecting another Exodus/Slayer/Metallica ripoff. They don’t sound like any of those bands. In fact they are not all that thrashy yet they are trying to jump on that bandwagon. Shit lyrics as you said. Pretty good singer – an ACTUAL singer which is nice. They’re OK. Nothing actually worth buying though.
You have to understand, when I say they are young I mean mid teens. So you have to give them some kind of credit as they have their shit together musically…but you can’t deny, as I said…the lyrical content, lacks form and creativity.

this band is an epic FAIL
How exactly can anyone say anything but praise for these guys? They’re very young, but already damn good. Just imagine what maturing will do to their sound!
In no way, shape or form are these guys “FAIL”. Get a brain.
When I first got this EP I was not as impressed as when I heard them live and actually heard the entire cd. I just saw them again at Mayhem fest and as usual they put on a great show. They can only get even better than they already are. If they were such a “fail” they wouldn’t be getting the rave reviews that they do from live shows.
