BMG Music…WTF??

by User ImageMetal Martyr on July 14th, 2007

I don’t buy CD’s that often and when I do it is usually through BMG when they have something worth buying. They have some great deals sometimes and the online selection is ok.

Whats my point? Well I get notification from BMG in my e-mail informing me of my “Featured selection”, in case you don’t know what this is, it is a monthly CD that usually has been in stores for a couple months. They feature it and offer it to you usually with some good deals to boot. Well your supposed to respond to your featured selection and give them a yes or now that you want it and if you don’t respond they send it to you anyway and then try to charge you for it. If you don’t want it all you have to do is send it back unopened, this means postal packaging, unless you want to pay postage.

Anyway, I get my notification that my feature selection is here. Well when you sign up you choose your genre and mine of course is the genre of Hard Rock/Metal. Well a lot of the time they have garbage featured selection but this month the selection was the new Jaine’s Addiction CD! WTF? Since when is J.A. metal…or even hard rock. Its crazy sometimes what marketing “Experts” do. This is the end of the post and I’m surprised you have even read this far but this was something I was baffled by, it just doesn’t make an sense. what the hell is the music business becoming.

Thanks, Spelling Police. I wasn’t sure and didn’t think anyone would really care if it was Jaine, Jane, Or Janine…it shouldn’t be in this category. Perhaps you can comb through the rest of my articles and correct my grammar too. ;)

I don’t think it is too hard to lump J.A. into the hard rock category. Are they metal, not quite. But if you were to give their first album ( Nothing’s Shocking ) there are several tunes that rock out ( i.e. Ocean Size, Mountain Song, Pigs in Zen ). Actually Ritual del Habitual ( the album that brought them to the spotlight ) had a couple of harder edged tunes as well ( Three days, Stop ). So it is not entirely ridiculous to put J.A. in the category of hard rock.

I suppose you’re right in a way. They don’t have that many categories at BMG, and I’m sure I’ve seen worse bands stuffed into this category.

I wouldn’t lump Jane’s Addiction into anything related to hard rock or heavy metal. In my opinion, they are simply alternative-like…I do like their music, but not enough to have one of their CDs sent to me in the mail.
