Canadians Love AILD, Maybe
April 28, 2009 by Scott
According to Bravewords.com this morning, As I Lay Dying’s new DVD, This Is Who We Are, released last week has sold 4200 in the United States and has gone platinum…oh, excuse me, it has “Shipped” platinum in Canada. So does that mean that they actually SOLD enough of the DVDs to go platinum or enough stores have bought it and it’s shipped enough from the label to be considered platinum.
If it’s the latter, that’s a pretty stupid concept considering the same thing was said about Guns N’ Roses Chinese Democracy. Hell, Best Buy bought a million copies, only of which maybe a few hundred thousand (and I may be way off) have actually sold since it’s release in November.
I have nothing against As I Lay Dying. I like the band despite what a lot of people may say or think. This shipped vs. sold thing has absolutely nothing to do with the band, but it’s not sold until a fan buys it from a retailer. That’s like saying GM is selling millions of cars when they are actually sitting in dealer lots.

that’s gotta be amount shipped. they’re not a bad band, but i just find it hard to believe that a concert dvd by a band that isn’t maiden or of that scale could sell that much
Yeah, i agree, is not really sold until the fan buys it from the retailer. I guess they think that they can sell every copy of the Shipment, but 4200 copies in the US is pretty good considering that the regular price for this DVD is $24.99. Some retailers have it for 19.99, which is what i paid for it at Hot Topic, but to me is worth it, even if you pay 24.99, i mean is a 3 DVD Set!
