Cannibal Corpse: Eaten Back To The Tomb Of The Bleeding
There is now doubt that Cannibal Corpse took death metal to a different level with rather revolting lyrics and album art work. The incomprehensible vocals of Chris Barnes sound as if a grizzly bear is trying to communicate with a rabid wolverine. However when you do understand a word here and there you just know he’s not singing about bunnies and babies, but rather cork-screw mutilation and rape induced torture.
I own three Cannibal Corpse albums. I will honestly tell you that there is only one song on each record that I like. The lyrics are all gore, murder, suicide, rape and such but nothing to take seriously.
Tomb of the mutilated: Hammer Smashed Face (You might have heard this one on Ace Ventura)
Eaten Back To Life: A Skull Full Of Maggots
The Bleeding: Stripped Raped and Strangled (Its about a serial killer and has a real cool riff and beat to it)
I had the privilege of seeing these guys in D.C. back in 1996 with a different singer. Chris Barnes moved on to SFU which I think was a good move on his part. I liked Six Feet Under much better than Cannibal Corpse.
The rest of the crew is said to begin recording new work in November 07.

I saw Cannibal Corpse at Sounds Of The Underground a couple years ago and while the lyrics were incomprehensible, i just could not believe how fast and precise the members played their instruments. It was insanity! And Hammer Smashed Face is such a badass song!

Hair and fingers flying all over the place (fretboards), thats the best explanation I can give you. and Yes the guitar playing is unbelievable!

As musicians they are truly quite talented. Particularly Alex Webster ( bass). That guy plays like he has 100 fingers. I saw them way back in 91 on The Bleeding world tour. They were really good. I would love to check them out now with George Fisher on vocals.

Yea, they are really talented musicians. The guitarists are just sick. But as far as their songs go, I’m not into the lyrics at all. One of my friends loves them, but it’s just not me…
