The so-called “Emo community” is not pleased:

The non-conforming conformist Emos have promised to blare Sunny Day Real Estate in the streets while slicing at their appendages with dull scissors until this “heinous travesty” has been corrected. They claim to have been depressed misfits well before they started using mascara.

I tracked down a well known Emo mocker codenamed “Followthreaper” and asked him what the catalyst was that caused a normal person to become a teeth gnashing self mutilating sympathy monger if it wasn’t cosmetics, and he had a very thought provoking response,

“Short and simple. Because Kurt Cobain did it.”

As of this writing, at least one Emo has committed suicide, but it was probably an accident. Millions of other Emos have threatened suicide and made phone calls to exes claiming “I’ll do it, I swear. Love me! Why don’t you love me!?”

I had the opportunity to talk to one “musician” (who wished to remain unnamed) about this amazing turn of events, and his response was as follows,

“I am not concerned. My music is not considered Emo, and neither are my fans. My fans are ‘The Beautiful People’ and I am their ‘Personal Jesus’. Yes, many of them do wear mascara under their ‘Heart Shaped Glasses’, but my fans certainly aren’t ‘Disposable Teens’ like those gay Emos.”

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and although there are more breast cancer survivors today than in the past due to numerous advances in science and medicine, many women still lose the fight. Hey, he said “unfortunately”, not me. Granted, Swine Flu isn’t as lethal as people are making it out to be, but just this once, couldn’t they be right? Oh my sweet baby Jesus, I can just imagine the new level of tasteless but funny jokes to hit the tubes if Marilyn Manson were to die of freaking Swine Flu. His next series of “songs” will be about the angst and horror of sitting on a toilet while having to puke between his knees and the extreme discomfort that the running mascara causes his eyes as he cries tears of gothic agony, wishing his bowels would just seal themselves shut forever.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t wish anyone dead. I just think it would be funny.

Authorities in San Diego County have confirmed that the remains of several bodies have been unearthed in the backyard garden of a coastal San Diego home on Wednesday.

Authorities found the bodies after an anonymous tip led them to the location.

For much of the day Sunday, neighbors tried to catch a glimpse of what was going on as a number of detectives were digging in what appears to be a vegetable garden of the home, located just off Interstate 5.

Then around 9 PM, they watched as several body bags were rolled out on stretchers from behind the home. Those body bags were then driven away by San Diego coroners.

“I thought there was just one. I was surprised to see they kept bringing them out,” said neighbor Josephine Wagacknyk.

After witnessing the disturbing scene, dozens of neighbors were left with even more questions.

But the one thing that was obvious to everyone Sunday night was a strong foul odor which seemed to emanate from the home.

“The stench. [It's a] real bad smell. If you’ve never been around a dead dog or something, then you wouldn’t know. But I’ve been around dead animals so I know it’s pretty bad,” said Wagacknyk.

Although police aren’t releasing the name of the owner of the home, neighbors tell Channel 12 News that the suspect spends much of his time working in the vegetable garden while listening to heavy metal music.

Upon further investigation, authorities found a CD which contained a song titled ‘A Body Farm’ in the suspect’s home; a song from an album that was released by local San Diego heavy metal band CATTLE DECAPITATION. Authorities are looking into this tragedy as being a possible “copycat crime” based on the band’s disturbing music and lyrics.

Channel 12 News attempted to contact the band, but the band’s representatives declined to comment.

The sheriff’s office isn’t expected to release the victims names until the coroner finishes the identification process and the next of kin are notified which is expected to be lengthy due to the advanced state of decomposition the bodies were in.

Great. Just what metal needs, another batch of idiots saying “This person was obviously not disturbed until he listened to ‘A Body Farm’ by Cattle Decapitation, at which point he completely lost his freakin’ mind and went on a killing spree!” The victims’ families will be lamenting the evils of metal music in general, and maybe Congress will want to get involved in a bit more censorship.

Or maybe nothing will happen at all.

Look, this dude (whoever the hell he his) was a psycho before he started listening to metal. The only music that has ever made me want to kill is Turkish pop and pretty much anything by Attack! Attack! or Hollywood Undead.

Darrell Lance Abbott was born August 20, 1966 to Carolyn and Jerry Abbott in Dallas, TX. His father owned a recording studio in Dallas, and as a child Darrell would be inspired by the many country and blues artists that he’d see come and go. Upon discovering Kiss, and more specifically guitarist Ace Frehley, Darrell became interested in heavy metal. Inspired, he started entering guitar talent competitions as a teenager. After winning pretty much everything he entered, he knew that his course was set. In the early 80’s, Darrell started going by the name “Diamond” and formed Pantera with his brother, drummer Vinnie Paul and bassist Rex Smith. With frontman Terry Glaze, the early glam metal style of Pantera was influenced by bands such as Def Leppard and Judas Priest. After releasing three albums (1983’s Metal Magic, 1984’s Projects in the Jungle, and 1985’s I Am the Night), Terry Glaze left the band.

Pantera then found a young singer by the name of Phil Anselmo, and the history of metal was changed forever. Disowning their three previous albums, Pantera began to reinvent their sound. In 1990, Cowboys from Hell was unleashed upon an unsuspecting world, featuring a much heavier style. However, with their release of Vulgar Display of Power in 1992, Pantera cemented their position as legends of metal. In 1994, Darrell changed his name from “Diamond” to “Dimebag”. 1996’s The Great Southern Trendkill earned the band their first Grammy nomination for “Suicide Note, Pt. 1”, and 1997’s release of Official Live: 101 Proof earned them yet another Grammy nod for their live version of “Cemetery Gates”.

Simply called “Dime” by most of his friends, Dimebag was known as the friendliest, most giving person most had ever met. Fans in Texas considered Dime to be the “people’s rock star”, as he was known to eat at chain restaurants and wave “hello” to fans while strolling through a local Target store. He was very approachable, and Dime never seemed to let stardom go to his head. Rarely seen without his favorite drink (called a “Black Tooth Grin“) in his hand, friends said that Dime lived his rock and roll lifestyle with grace. He enjoyed dousing his friends and family with gifts, and cherished the time that he spent with them. Dimebag Darrell was a class act.

In 2003, Pantera broke up, leading Dimebag and brother Vince to form Damageplan with Pat Lachman on vocals and bassist Bob Zilla rounding out the new band. In February, 2004, Damageplan released their debut album New Found Power, which sold 44,676 copies it’s first week, debuting at number 38 on the Billboard 200. Tragedy struck the night of December 8, 2004, when Damageplan took the stage at Alrosa in Columbus, OH.

During the band’s opening song, 25 year old Nathan Gale rushed across the stage and opened fire on Dimebag Darrell, hitting him several times and killing him instantly. Gale then killed three other people and wounded two more before being shot and killed by a Columbus police officer. I would write about his motives, but this article isn’t about the deranged man that murdered several people and took a legend from us, it’s about honoring one of the greatest guitarists of all time, Dimebag Darrell Abbott. His death has been covered, and while we still grieve for the loss of such a phenomenal brother… I believe that we should celebrate his life, and all that he gave to us in his years of performing.

RIP, Dime. We love you.

Yusuf Sengul was attending a metal festival with 4 of his friends, when they made the sign at the passing vehicles. Sengul stated:

“The tinted windows of one of the cars opened and a guy in dark glasses shouted ‘what the hell are you doing’… They said they were acting on the orders of the prime minister, we were laughing. We thought it was a joke.”

It was no joke. All five men were bundled into cars, taken to a police station, and held without charge for 21 hours. To add a touch of freakin’ strange to the debacle, Turkish authorities forced the men to listen to a selection of pop and Turkish music after being handcuffed, fingerprinted and repeatedly questioned.

Prime Minister Erdogan has been repeatedly blamed for “outbursts of intolerance” and his “conservative democrat” party advisers have repeatedly pressured media outlets to fire journalists who have maintained independent views. They also have the charming habit of fining cartoonists who draw satirical images of Erdogan.

Prime Minister Erdogan said about the incident:

“I unfortunately saw the state of some of our young people, and it was depressing. This endless, uncontrolled moral erosion is really worrying. We must defend our family structure.”

I’ll tell you what’s depressing. Intolerant totalitarians that will bully and torture (pop music? Damn that, waterboard me) their own citizens based on what they claim is good for the people. What we’re seeing here is a man who equates metal with “moral erosion”, all while trying to force people to conform to his ridiculous idea of Utopian society.

It was crowded for 7:30 when we got there. Epicurean was playing and they were extremely loud, but pretty good. I’m not familiar with the band but they have a thrashy, almost death metal sound to them. I guess one of their guitar players bailed on them.

Warbringer picked up the pace a bit and was really cool. I’ll definitely have to make an attempt to listen to more Warbringer soon. Their drummer broke his arm or wrist earlier in the tour so the drummer for Epicurean was helping them out, playing double duty. Needless to say, Wabringer’s set was a slightly shorter. Belphagor was pretty good. I wasn’t really in to them, though.

Exodus was awesome. In fact, it was so awesome that I had to get in the pit for a few minutes. I forgot how fun it was and yet how tiring it is at the same time. I found myself very winded, very fast.

Kreator was even better than Exodus. They had the crowd even more awake and moving than Exodus did. The pit was almost constantly moving and people were having a blast. I got in the pit for a few minutes (or less) during one of the last few songs, I think it might have been Enemy Of God. We left as Kreator was doing an encore but it was cool. My head was ringing and I was ready to go.

This is what made the show great, besides the bands. The environment and the attitude among everyone there. The pit was like an old school thrash pit with no karate moshers and everyone was having a good time. If someone fell, three or four people would try to help them up. If someone was crowd surfing and heading for an empty spot in the pit someone would try to catch them or guide them in another direction. There was no one acting stupid, nobody was being a dick and it was all fun. I think this had a lot to do with the fact that it was a slightly older, more mature crowd than most of the shows I’ve been to in the past year. I have a few sore spots and it feels like someone took a baseball bat to my right calf, but it was all worth it.

I’m not sure how many more shows are left on this tour, but go! If you have to skip work, school or whatever, go! It’s well worth it.
