Megadeth Finish Recording

Megadeth’s Dave Mustaine has left the following message on TheLiveLine.com and sent out an excerpt in Megamail.

“I’m at the studio right now, Vic’s Garage, and we are done! We’re just right now finishing the last couple of notes on the new record, and Andy’s getting ready to pack his bags and head up to Los Angeles tomorrow to get ready to fly back home on Thursday. Man, this has been a long, grueling, enduring process but it’s been so worth it, and I’m so excited. I’m more excited about this record then I’ve been in any record since back in the 1980’s. I would say, probably since, well definitely since “Rust In Peace” there’s nothing that’s excited me this much – maybe “Countdown”, but this is just absolutely insane.”

I really liked United Abominations, though it still feels like it’s missing something at times. I hope this album keep it going and takes it up a few notches.

Conquer And Curse Tour

Lousiana’s Goatwhore is about to release their 4th album Carving Out The Eyes Of God on Metal Blade Records on June 23rd. Their first song off of the album, Apocalyptic Havoc, debuted on XM radio’s Liquid Metal today. You can request it HERE.

They have two local shows in LA and then they’ll be heading out on the Conquer And Curse Tour with Abigail Williams, Daath, Abysmal Dawn and Success Will Write Apocalypse Across The Sky. That sounds like a pretty good show to. Request the song on XM and get it some play. Tour dates are after the fold.

Rob Halford Launches Metal God Apparel

Let’s be honest. No matter how much you try to be open minded, the first thing that comes to mind when you hear that Rob Halford is launching a clothing line, you might think of Gay Biker clothes. It’s hard not to because no matter how much you like the guy and Judas Priest, there is always that thought looming in the back of your mind after he came out of the closet. I don’t think of Rob Halford as “That gay dude that sings for Judas Priest”, but that’s always going to be an issue when his name is mentioned. Sadly, we all have that little bit of ignorance in the back of out minds and for people that are not fans, that is how they think of him.

Regardless of his sexual preference, Halford and Priest are still, and always will be rock and metal icons. I wouldn’t expect Halford to release a gay biker clothing line any more than I would expect Judas Priest to release a disco album. With all that said and set aside, Rob Halford’s Metal God Apparel is quite honesty a lot of great t-shirt designs, though the prices are a bit ridiculous.

Similar to the Affliction clothing line that is ever so popular and often sort of copied, Metal God Apparel offers plenty of cool T-shirt designs. Will they sell like hot-cakes? I don’t know. I don’t have a clue how well this stuff sells and it has me wondering about the Dimebag Hardware clothing line and how well that is selling these days.

Start The Day With A Little Live Opeth

It never seems to fail me. Whenever I am feeling under-stimulated by music and I just don’t know what to listen to from like 9000 songs on my iPod, I can turn on Opeth and just about every song still blows me away. Blackwater Park and Damnation seem to get played the most, but Ghost Reveries is creeping in close behind. There are very few bands that I can say that I love their ENTIRE catalog and Opeth is one of them. Here is a live Opeth video filmed in Chile. It’s not the best footage, though.

Hate To Do Two Posts On Metallica In One Day But…

It’s Metallica Monday on Fuse. With the band being inducted in to the RRHOF, there’s bound to be a lot of press on then. I try to be choosy when picking what I think should be posted and if you have no better way to spend your evening you can start with Some Kind Of Monster at 6pm. Me, I’ll opt to wait until 9pm for the better Metallica shows. Every time I watch Some Kind Of Monster I get all pissed off because it’s not like some behind the scenes look at the band in a fun way. It shows a bunch of over 40 men pissin’ and moanin’, cryin’ and bitchin’ like a bunch of kids. Sure it showed the “softer” side of Metallica, but who really wants to see a bunch of dudes that need a therapist help them write a bunch of shitty songs and a producer that thinks he’s in the band. I would have loved to see some good behind the scene footage from the early days before the 90’s.~~end of rant…

Headbanger Ball Recap 3/28

I haven’t mentioned much about Headbanger’s Ball lately because it’s been on too late for me to really care about it. This week only it was an early show that started at 10pm and it was a pretty good line up…with the exception of 2 songs. Hed PE still sucks and the new Static X song is just like their old songs and I can’t say that I liked it at all. Despite what a lot of other people are saying, I kind of dig the new Dope song, 6-6-Sick. I think it would sound better if someone else was singing, but then it wouldn’t be Dope now would it? The Evolution Of Metallica’s Logo

Every band that wants to make an impact on their fans, not only through music but through their album art needs a good logo or mascot. Megadeth has Vic Rattlehead, Iron Maiden has Eddie, The Misfits have The Crimson Ghost and etc. Over the years sometimes these logos and mascots evolve through better artwork and technology. Some bands stay with what works while others make changes to keep it interesting.

Metallica is one of those bands that has changed their logo over the years but has recently went back to the original format they used with Kill ‘Em All. Unrealityshout.com writer, Gerard McGarry recently wrote an article about the evolution of Metallica’s logo where he shows us how they went from the classic logo to the three dimensional logo, to a more blocky logo during the Load and Reload years and back to the classic logo with their latest release, Death Magnetic.

I think that most fans appreciate the original logo, to include the more 3d version than it’s later predecessor and were happy to see it once again on Death Magnetic.

Rex Says There’s A Pantera Box Set Coming!

Blabbermouth reports that Former Pantera Bass player Rex Brown has confirmed that there is a Pantera box set in the works. Most people’s first thought will probably be “But I have of their CD’s already”. Do you? Most people think they do, but before Cowboys From Hell there are some albums that never made the cut and died right alongside the glam scene. The only one that I have come across is Power Metal which I lost some years ago. I imagine you can probably find some of the pre-CFH albums on the file sharing networks, but if they reprinted them for the box set, that would be really cool. Random Thought: Megadeth Daily Updates

I think it’s kind of cool that the members of Megadeth give everyday updates, but I wonder if this is like Dave’s policy or something. Do they have a schedule of who’s day it is to give the daily update or do they do like rock-paper-scissors for it after their morning Wheaties and Legend’s Cup coffee.

Obviously it’s a slow news day. I’m also tired of waiting for the new album already.

Dave Mustaine Comments ON Metallica’s Induction In To The R & R Hall Of Fame.

Dave Mustaine published the following message on Megadeth Forums concerning Metallica’s induction in to the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame:

Droogies!

Metallica as you know has been selected to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. So, it is with much respect that I say “congratulations!”

I also had the nice surprise of hearing that they called to invite me to the pre-ceremony party the night before, and then to the actual ceremony. Unfortunately as you all know, I will be winding down our European tour with Judas Priest so I will be unable to attend.

However, I’d like to say to Lars and James, “I am so very proud of all you have accomplished. I will continue to pray for the very best for you and your families as I always have.”

Thank you for the invitation and thinking of me.

This is very classy of Dave. I really don’t think that he should see Metallica as opposition anymore, even with their latest effort. I’ll say it again; Megadeth has had their won success either equal to or higher in my heart than Metallica has. It may not be from a sales or media point of view, but still extremely successful. Sadly, success these days is measured by how many lip imprints are on your ass and how fat your wallet it. From a musical standpoint they have purely progressed, while Metallica may have “evolved”. When I read this letter it made me very proud to be a Dave Mustaine and Megadeth fan.
