CD Review: Megadeth United Abominations
July 24, 2007 by Scott
I know this CD had been out for awhile now but I just got it after a long hesitation. After Cryptic Writings I was very hesitant to buy another Megadeth CD. I didn’t even bother with risk and The System has Failed just didn’t do it for me. I’ve tried to convince myself many times that “System” is a good cd. I take it out to the car and try to listen to it on my way to work but I take it out after two songs and it sits in my glove box until I bring it back inside again.
So I finally bought United Abominations on Friday. So far I love it. Sleepwalker reminds me of a new Black Friday. This CD is packed with great riffs, rhythms and solos from both Drover and Mustaine. Although united abominations, Amerikstan, Gears of War, and Washington Is Next are quite political the rest of the songs are kept simply metal anthem type songs. This is probably the best record since Youthanasia. Much better line up than “System” and Risk. You can tell that this line-up really clicks and I look forward to seeing what else they can do.
To all that Like to compare Megadeth and Metallica, nothing Metallica has put out in the last 17 years can even compete with United Abominations. I’m glad I finally bought this. I would recomend it to anyone. You’ve done the fans proud, Dave! 4 Stars!

I have yet to pick this one up, but I’m sure I will soon. Metallica doesn’t do it for me anymore, anything they put out before the Black album was their best stuff. My favorite Megadeth album still has to be a toss up between Peace Sells and So far, So good…so what! Great stuff
My favorite Megadeth album is Rust in Piece but this comes really close. Best album of the year so far.
I like all the older stuff, from Business, to countdown and I still dig Youthanasia. Cryptic writing kinda had me wondering and risk was just a contract filler to me, System had its ups but mostly downs.
Hmm..can’t believe I haven’t gotten this album yet. Oh well, never too late to get a great album. I don’t really like the song Gears of War, but I’m sure this won’t disappoint.
