CD Review, The Lost Tracks of Danzig

August 14, 2007 by Scott

lost-tracks.jpgSo I was at F.Y.E last night and was about to pick up Shadows Fall’s Art Of Balance and Machinehead’s Blackening when I saw The Lost Tracks Of Danzig and it was calling my name. This is a two disc set and is about a big as the CD outer cases when they used to sell them back in the early 90’s. The cover art is really cool and the inner sleave looks like a comic book cover and as usual there pictures of the band and Glenn shirtless and with claws and the typical Glenn Danzig stuff.

Now if your not a hardcore Danzig fan and you just like the song Mother ‘93 then chances are you won’t dig any of this. If your a metal fan looking to get into Danzig then DO NOT START HERE! Start with Danzig 1 and go from there. If your a hardcore fan that loves even the old shit from the misfits and Samhain then you will probably like this because it sounds like old dirty recorded danzig.

Disc one sounds as if it focuses more on the older style stuff before Danzig 4. The song Cold Cold Rain sounds like it could have been a great Danzig ballad such as Sistinas or Blood and Tears but the vocals are very low and it doesnt sound very well mixed but still sounds cool. The cover of T-rex’s classic Buick Mckane is pretty good, I’d say better than the GnR version. Two different versions of When Death Had No Name are on disc one. If you are a true fan you’ve heard atleast one version somewhere or another throughout the years. The acoustic version of Come to Silver is kinda shitty sounding but its and O.K. song.

Disk two starts sounding more like the latter half of the Danzig catalog. With industrial style guitar and vocal sounds and heavy bass drum sounds, it does not appeal to me as much as disc one. Bound by Blood is deffenatly the best song on disc two. If you happen to be at an FYE or somewhere that you can preview CD’s before you buy then give this set a listen before you buy it.

I dig Danzig, my fave by them has to be “Twist of cain”… This sounds like a cool cd, I may have to pick it up.

Roberta and Scott ( fellow fans of Danzig ),

You guys ever check out either the misfits or samhain? Samhain you might have a hard time finding ( unless you want to buy an entire box set ) but the misfits stuff is awesome!!! The Samhain stuff is actually really good too ( sort of like Danzig’s first album ( actually some of those songs were reworked for the first danzig album, i.e. Twist of cain )

  3. Scott says:

Absolutely! I don’t have a lot of Samhain stuff but I have the Misfits box along with a few other cds like static age, collection 1 and 2. I even have a misfits tatoo. I always wanted the danzig skull tat but never got around to getting it and now I have no desire to. I’ve thought about buying the Samhain box a few times but never have.
