Century Media- Cover 20 Years Of Extremes

November 21, 2008 by Scott

Century Media 20 Years Of Extremes Ok, who’s heard this and what do you think of this 2 disc set of Century Media bands covering Century Media Bands? I like cover songs….done right, but I expected a lot more from this album. I think they might have been able to do better with an All Stars type go around or a 4 disc set like Nuclear Blast put out.

My first thought…some good some bad. Here are a few of the goods, bads and meh’s in my opinion.

  • Good: Arch Enemy covers Dream Evil’s Book of Heavy Metal
  • Bad: Warbringer covers Unleashed Execute Them All
  • Meh: Firewind covers Nevermore’s Believe In Nothing (Not as good as I hoped)
  • Good: Intronaut covers EYEHATEGOD’s Dixie Whiskey
  • Bad: Manntis (Featuring In This Moment) Covering Lacuna Coil’s Heaven’s A Lie
  • Meh: Wolf Cover Moonspell’s Alma Mater

Ok so are there only 6 songs? I assume not
Is it a collaboration of Extreme bands covering metal songs or vice verca? Because I recognize alot of the bands, most of the originals are bands I like, while the coverers are artists I normally don’t listen to.
And how can you do a bad cover of a Lacuna Coil song? Their crap is par at best, and thats while it is original

2 discs, 32 songs. It’s all Century Media record label bands cover songs from other century media record label bands. I just names a few that came to mind, but there are a lot of great bands and songs on it. It’s just that when you hear a bad one….you know it.

“how can you do a bad cover of a Lacuna Coil song?” Trust me….it was done. They speed it up and add a metal-core kind of screaming with Maria Brink singing the chorus vocals. It’s really weird. Check iTunes and see if you can sample it.

“Check iTunes and see if you can sample it.” I really doubt that I want to sample that song, but I might give the whole thing a listen. Thanks for the update

Eh it was the album sounded good on paper. The Manntis song disappointed me because they’re actually a pretty good band i think. Also the Shadows Fall one was a lil upsetting because that song was on their Fallout From the War album, and that’s another band i like.

That’s the only Shadows Fall album I don’t have. It did look much better in print. I’ve heard worse compilations though
