Chimaira…The Forgotten Band

by User ImageMetal Martyr on March 10th, 2008

CHIMAIRA_resurrection So you all are probably tired of hearing me talk about the ATR show. Well there was one other band there that I didn’t mention much, Chimaira. Chimaira was on this tour in support of Resurrection, the CD they released almost exactly one year to the date of the show I went to. Now I couldn’t really get into Resurrection he first time I listened to it but I was on my way home from work today and I dialed it in on my iPod and was actually diggin it.

As far as the show goes, they went on after Black Tide and Before All That Remains. Let me tell you, they put on one hell of a light show. I’m not big on Mark Hunters vocals on the CD but I can work with it. What I couldn’t work with was the fact that the band was loud and heavy, but you could barely hear the vocals when he was screaming and they were loud as hell when he was singing normally (If that’s what you want to call it). The crowd loved them and it was quite obvious there was a lot of people there to see them and they worked the crown well. It wasn’t a bad performance by any means. It was hard, heavy and energetic but Mark sounded like he was straining to sing, but that’s kinda what he sounds like on the CD and even a big fan of theirs said he sounds a lot better on the cd. I think they could have turned his mic up a bit more and it would have sounded better. They did a great job, but I was ready for them to get it over with and ready to see ATR. as I said before though, by the time ATR came on I had a splitting headache and was ready to go home and beat the traffic out of the parking lot so I wouldn’t have a fu*kin aneurism.

I would have preferred to see Divine Heresy but they were not on this leg of the tour. Anyway, I just thought I would put my 2 cents in about Chimaira at the show.

In case anyone doesn’t know, the name is pronounced ky-mare-ra, sort of like Camera only with a long “I” instead of an “A”. Hey…I didn’t know until the show. Goes to show how much I know about the band.
