Chris Daughtry Sings On A Sevendust Song

by Scott on February 18th, 2008

chrisdaughtry_blenderth.jpgAs if I needed another reason to dislike Sevendust. It looks as if Chris Daughtry and Sevendust are fans of each other and have collaborated in a new song on Sevendust’s next record. Just another reason for me NOT to buy a Sevendust CD. Don’t get me wrong. I’m not a Daughtry hater because I think he’s talentless, because it’s obvious that he can sing…it’s just the way he sings. You know, like Mr. Ed. “O-o-o-o-h, W-i-i-i-i-l-l-b-u-r-r!”. The music isn’t all that bad. I wouldn’t pay for it, but it’s not that bad. Oh Well, rock needed a new band to hold hands with Nickelback.

It’s funny how you rip on both of these guys while you sit with your dick in your hand not even close to the level they have achieved. U shouldn’t knock sevendust who have toured with many…influenced probably your favorite band/bands….and put out an album every year which no one does. not even my boys metallica.
music would not be what it is without different revolutions…you need to respect that for all artists. As morgan would say…FUCK YOU…..

I’m sure you “Respect” every band you don’t like and never rip on them yourself…right?

As far as “Your Boys” go, they take 5 years to put out a record just to have it suck royally.

I Love Sevendust. I Like Chris Daughtry. I Think It’s A Great Idea. As Far As Your Stupid comment on Metallica Putting A New ALbum Every Five Years, Fuck You, When Is The Last Time You Put Out An Album? and dude is right, without music taking a new turn here and there, we’d still be listning to shit like Buddy Holly. LOL.

Most metal bands these days are putting out records every 2 years with no filler and constantly touring in the meantime, writing and recording while on the road. That’s how it has to be done in the digital age we live in. I’m entitled to my opinion as you are yours. I don’t hate you because you like shit that I don’t. Opinions are opinion but the truth pisses people off and I can see your obviously upset.

I’ve been following Sevendust since the beginning of their career, as did most of my friends. However, I never fully realized what a bunch of complete tools most other Sevendust fans really are. For my friends and I, Sevendust was always the exception to the mass amount of horseshit music out there like Korn and Alterbridge and all these other money-hungry assholes. You can’t categorize us as “metal”. Shit, we just like good music from the heart. At the end of the day, Sevendust let me down, and so did the majority of their fans in that they let this American Idol guy on this record. Chris Daughtry sounds like a bad impression of Scott Stapp of Creed. It’s garbage. They lost a customer, they lost a fan. And what the fuck happened to Sonny? He was awesome. What happened to “The Last Song” all about how much of a putz Clint is? Apparently Sevendust does what’s convenient to make a dollar. Hm, sounds like something Korn would do. Funny thing is, that’s how bands fall apart. I’d be happy to see these guys working at a fast-food chain. I wish I didn’t have to feel this way but, I’m not gonna take this lying down.

Mike… you sound like a donkey. For anybody who has an ear for music, Daughtry and Stapp sound NOTHING alike. I’m not a fan of Daughtry’s music.. I don’t hate him, I loved his Fuel cover… he’s got a voice different from most other people in rock. He has a natural singing voice. He can control it and it’s better than 98% of the singers out. It’s distinct because of this. Sevendust is doing a track with someone they call a friend. Who are you to say they do what’s convenient to make a dollar? After 7 albums, you should have noticed by now as someone who has “tracked them” that they stuck true with what they’ve always done. Put out consistant music. Did they sell out when Aaron Lewis sang on “Follow”? No… “The Past” hasn’t even been a single yet, proving that they aren’t going to try and cash in on Daughtry’s name. And even if they release “The Past”… it’s a phenomenal song. They deserve their success, just like every band out there on the road fighting for it.

Besides… they’d probably be making more money at a fast-food chain with the abysmal state the record industry is in. Most bands would be better off.

I’ve been following Sevendust for about 10 years or so. I enjoyed Animosity and Seasons the most because this is when I saw them the most and both albums were great from start to finish.. Reguarless of who was playing in the band that was their personal drama, It had nothing to do with the music. Sonny is fucking awesome, guess what Clint is fucking talented too. Dark New Day was the shit. Clint wrote Angle’s son. Another huge song for the band. At this point egos have nothing to do with the band. Ive partied with these guys after shows over a dozen times in three states, I’ve gave them a ride from one venue to another to watch another band play. Morgan and John were pricks to everyone almost everytime. The point is.. no band is going to keep everyone happy all the time. They loose old fans and pick up 10 more. Look at metallica, they lost fans at the black album and got more, then again after reload. Sevendust’s music has grown so much in the last 10 years but I personally feel that they peaked at Seasons. Next fell short. Their slower ballads are whats keeping fans, because the harder songs really arent that hard. So having an american idol sing a ballad with them sounded like a good idea to keep fans. Who cares where the guy caught his break, he can sing. I think he has nothing to do with metal, but then again.. Sevendust has been moving away from metal too. Alpha sucked, lyricly.. song structure was good. The band is doing what it seems to be the best. As a whole they write ballads better that metal. Listen to seasons.. then look at next, shadows in red, skeleton song.. then burn on alpha.. they are all of the songs that stand out. Give them a break, if you want metal go put in Soilwork or In Flames and stop bitching.

    - one more thing.. no one bitched when Mark Magrath ( Sugar Ray and now E! host) sang Angel’s Son on Leno with Sevendust.. It didn’t matter how corny the guy is cause Magrath is friends with the band… It’s their band, not ours. Keep in mind by definition, bands become sell-outs as soon as they sign with a record label..

Honeslty That is the only Sevendust song I like.

I never liked that whole theory of a band becomes a sell out as soon as they sign a record deal…because just about every band out there is trying to get signed whether they say so or not.

Would you like to accept the option: They dont do it for money, they just think that their music is so good that they need for everyone to hear it. Fame or money, end of the day thats all they have. If they did it just to play the music, they would still be in their garage. They may love their fans but no band plays for their fans. They do it cause it pays the bills or they’d do it for free.

  • Scott
    May 20, 2008 at 3:40 pm

Absolutely. But they do play for the fans…because the fans pay the bills. It’s a job just like anything else.

What is it with folks…hatin’ after they deem a artist/band a “sellout”? Just because a artist/band becomes popular and gathers fans isn’t a reason to hate; nor labeling them just because they achieve success. I know this stream of thought among the folks who only like artists/bands that aren’t popular, and then jump ship the minute anytime more than their immediate friends are fans. To me, that isn’t appreciation for music, and has little to do with music; it is deep-seeded anti-establishment…which is fine. But better to be honest with yourself about the origins of the matter than attribute and argue that it has to do with the music…

hey Jeff, don’t get me wrong i like hard rock too, but metal is my thing and i don’t know what kind of guy are you bro but you sound like a hard rock guy..
F**k this and F**k that. And i used to like sevendust and i respect what they doing right now, and the music speaks for it self, it’s not just like this band and i’m gonna like whatever the HELL the put out. period.

How many of you have shown yourselves to be the tools you profess to label this band or Chris Daughtry. I have listened to this latest album for a couple of weeks, and not being an American, I had no idea who this Chris Daugtry was. But listening to his voice, he pushes Lajon, and I consider Lajon to have one of the deepest, richest most amazing voices out there.
You are the tool if you think being apart of some outside group is cool, that they, you are “hardcore.”
It just means you are another try-hard wanker.
