Corey Taylor Looking To Release Solo Album

Corey Taylor has said in the past that if Slipknot were ever to disband then he would go on doing his own thing in the form of acoustic guitars and such. Well Slipknot isn’t disbanding but Taylor is talking about releasing a solo album anyway. Blabbermouth reports:
He says, “It’s something that I’d like to do purely for myself. It’s something that I need to release before I can think about moving on to anything else… In both SLIPKNOT and STONE SOUR I’m slightly limited to how I can write and indeed what I can write about. The beauty of doing a solo album is that I can write whatever type of song I want.”
The article also mentions that he has about 40 songs under consideration for the album. Personally I hope it is mostly acoustic driven. I like 99% of the acoustic or mellow songs on all the Stone Sour and Slipknot albums and I’m pretty sure if they are anything like those that this would be a great album. Of course it probably wouldn’t get the recognition it might deserve due to the fact that it’s “The Slipknot Singer”, so people would just assume write it off. We’ll have to wait and see what goes down.

Corey Taylor has an awesome voice. To say he can’t sing is just ignorant. I’m looking forward to a solo album if one is actually in the works.
Actually, I don’t think Corey can sing for shit. But what he does vocally for slipknot is perfect. That being said, I confidently predict a major flop for any solo albums released by any members of Slipknot. As a band Slipknot is far bigger then the sum of the individuals. But as individuals they have nothing to offer. Corey’s album may sell a few thousand copies, but I am saying here and now that it will suck. It will not hold anyone’s attention for repeat listening…and to me it signals the beginning of the end for a once great band.
He’s no Andrea Bocelli but he can carry a tune. He’s done well with Stone Sour and I dig most of his slow songs with the exception of Silly World.

yeah, this is the end of slipknot. not that this is anything huge, but he doesn’t even wear the slipknot “uniform” type thing at their shows anymore. i love their first two albums but volume 3 began the decest of their music quality. my predication is that he thinks it will sell like mad, which it probably will for the first few weeks because it’s slipknot’s singer. then all the die hard slipknot fans will be like, wow this isn’t that great. corey will lose all his money eventually and end up living in iowa with nothing to do. hahaha.
I think corey is a legend and his lyrics and every thing that he does rules such as slipknot stone sour i love black and death meal but know wat i like and think he is such a gud song writer lookin foward to be hearin the album
None of us knows who Corey is, or what he is about, we only know the media image, so no1 can say, if he’s an ass or not or what so ever… And for the singing, yes, he can sing, he’s a really great pop/rock/metal singer.
And maybe, Just maybe, the solo album isnt made “for” the die hard knot fans, you know there’s the stone sour thingy also… and millions and millions of people in this world who might like this.

Hmm ill check this solo album out as i used to be a maggot for slipknot. i still like slipknot, but havnt got back into them last time i saw them. They put a fantastic show on at that, but i just know about the solo album.
I did really like AHIG but it felt like is missed something, dont know what. Well i know im off topic but oh well, i look forward to hearing his solo album!

no doubt…slipknot **ckin rocks and so does corey ….i honestly hope he does make a solo album more or less because i need more material as im a vocalist myself and lately slipknot/stone sour’s bin a lot of help they have such wide range shit vocaly (more with slipknot) going from scream raspy voice to light melodic singing is the hardest an to me is wut i hope to see in more bands nowadays if i ever get anywhere thats wut i’ll do and its because of artist’s like corey i get the inspiration …all and all yes corey make a solo album no doubt you prolly feel out alot of his emotion then with bands hes limited to wut hes singing ……. any vocalist needs to let out full emotion or its not true ….maybe alot of his solo album will be all melodic and to alot of his fans it might seem gay(or somn) but it’ll be him leting out emotion the way he needs to. wich i cant wait to indulge when it ever comes out XD
Okay. So having read every single comment on this page over this artical, I have experienced a few epiphones. Primarily, it has occured to me that it has now become almost impossible find people who express structured arguments (bar a few), and secondly I am now also aware that no matter how hard you try, you are never going to escape the immature teenagers brought up on R&B who assume metal bands such as Slipknot aren’t worth their attention.
Anyways, this aside, I am going to be biased (as I’m a personal Corey Taylor idoliser) and go with Tyler. To say Corey Taylor’s vocals are shit is overly crass, and evidently you haven’t not taken exactly WHAT he does into consideration. First of all, he does not stick to one genre, he sings a vast array of Rock, Metal, Country, Folk, NuRock and many Alternative stylized music types. The beauty if what he does in Slipknot (primarily in their first album), is the switch between screaming and singing in an instant. Also, you have to take into account that before Slipknot, the Metal scene was already dying, and Slipknot was the seed that recultivated, and reinnovated the genre.
Anyways, going back to the point, and once moer agreeing with Tyler’s point, I very much see this album being underappreciated, as (as corey said) many people will flog it off as just being a rip from ‘The Slipknot singer’.

I’m not a big Slipknot fan anymore (I’ve grown away from the metal scene), but I must say, Corey Taylor has an amazing singing voice. A fine example of this is the song “Through Glass” by Stone Sour. His voice in this song is amazing and if his solo album has a voice anything like it, it will be an amazing album. In a world where everyone downloads music for free, this will be an album I will surely pay for. You can’t write him off just because he sings for Slipknot. Plenty of singers have voices that you would never expect, just because they are in a band that they can’t use it in. Corey Taylor is a fine example of this.

Anyone that thinks Corey CAN’T sing is completely ignorant and knows nothing about him. I am not a Slipknot fan. But I recently heard the songs Bother, Through Glass, and Zzyzx Rd. by Stone Sour. After hearing those, I did a YouTube search for Corey Taylor and the Junk Beer Kidnap Band. Watch that. Anyone who thinks he can’t sing after that is just too stubborn or closed-minded to admit he might be moving to something better, something really great. 2 Originals I’ve heard from him are called “Beyond” and “Breath of Fresh Smoke”. Seriously, search for them on YouTube, they are absolutely amazing. From Corey himself, “Big chords, huge choruses, and lots of melody”. It’s awesome. All sorts of chords, harmonizing, and clean and beautiful singing, still in a rock context. No it’s not metal, sorry. It’s better.

From my point of view, Corey Taylor is a very gifted singer and thought highly of by all of his fans. For this “Solo” album coming out is just entirely for him he’s trying to get away from all the darkened lyricy from slipknot and the hard rock lyricy from stone sour. There fore, it has nothing to do with those bands it has something to do with him as a person and If I was in his shoes i would probably do the same thing.

Corey Talor is a master at what he does. Any1 who says otherwise is just jealous…Diversity is a good thing. I would hate 2 hear him sing like the lamb of god singer (any1 can do that). Not only can he sing, but if u listen 2 what he’s saying it’s fu**in’ brilliant…maggot 4 life bro!!!

This will most likely be the most wanted album for me. Every song hes ever sang it sounds like he put everything he had into. He is by far one the best singers of the decade and anyone who thinks hes a bad singer is either tone def or just a strait up idiot

Corey Taylor as literally made me who I am today he is the reason I play music at all. He is the reason I see things the way I do. He is my hero I guess is the easiest thing to say. I love Corey whether he be in stone sour,slipknot or writing with band like walls of jericho, soulfly, or even snot. He does great at what he does. And hey look at how he is living and look at the way you idiot mindless teenagers are living. You all are living by criticism and that alone.
