Danzig Working On New Album. I Wait In Anticipation…Of Imminent Disappointment.
May 4, 2009 by Scott
In the early 90’s I started to get in to Danzig. I wasn’t a big fan, in fact I only had the debut, self titled release on cassette. It wasn’t until 1995 that I really started to get in to all the other albums, after a close friend let me listen. I was hooked and I quickly became a fan of Danzig, The Misfits and Samhain soon after.
In 1996 I, like many Danzig fans had a stupid look on my face when I played the new release at the time, Danzig 5: Blackacidevil. Blackacidevil was a hard, swift kick in the nuts to 99.9% of Danzig fans that were highly anticipating the new album. Glenn had parted with American Records, canned all the other members and decided to produce the album himself.
Though the 3 following albums after Blackacidevil have been a slight improvement, they still have done almost nothing for me. When I read this weekend that Danzig is recording a new album I wasn’t excited, I wasn’t enthusiastic and I wasn’t hopeful.
It would be nice to hear Danzig return to the route sound they had with American Records but I doubt that is likely. Glenn wants to do things his way and his way only. I imagine I’ll be greatly under-whelmed by anything Danzig ever releases again. I don’t even hold out with hope any more, like I’ve done with other long time favorites.

In my eyes, Danzig lost it after the Thrall-Demonsweatlive EP. I didn’t even care for the fourth full length. His first couple of albums were great gothic/doom type metal. He lost his trademarked croon some time after the fourth album and the band really hasn’t been listenable since. I’m with you, I am not excited for this album.
Yeah, you could definitely hearing it going in a different direction on Danzig 4, but 5 was just such a big WTF? to me.
WTF!
a quick shake to my ipod and “her black wings” reminds me why i used to like Danzig… sadly it’s true we’re going to give it a chance knowing no other song like “mother” will appear never again, so maybe… maybe they need a demo for this new album or a sample in amazon to know if we will give them a chance or not…
any way… another shake and “dirty black summer” appears… maybe it’s destiny telling me to give it a try… but… i don’t know
I have my doubts about it as well, but Danzig has surprised me in the past. I was not a big fan of anything after Danzig III, with notable exceptions being Cantspeak (IV) and Belly of the Beast (6.6.6.). However, with five years past since Circle of Snakes, Glenn may have a surprise for us.
Danzig is 55 years old and has never been married = he is gay.
lol, Anon. Kinda makes you wonder. Perhaps he’s just a smart dude that doesn;t want to be tied down by just one woman. Who knows?
WTF, you guys have a 180 mind set about this compared to me
i will not buy the new album until I have a solid foundation with his past work. Up until now the vocals have been the focus of the first albums but the further out it seems to be more of a connection between lyrics and music.
I won’t allow myself to call me a fan just yet. I have been listening to Danzig for aout a week scramling through songs from every album and it is refreshing to me to hear someone being able to go in different directions without Fing it up IMO. Like some other bands, do I dare to name metallica. I have bought the Danzig+ How the gods kill (danzig III) and I listened to Satan’s child the other day and man that albm is like YEAH!!! and I know that I will be happy with every album
