Dio: Stand Up And Shout, The Anthology
Dio’s Stand Up And shout Anthology in review. I picked this up a couple of weeks ago. I wanted to further educate myself on Dio. Never a huge Ronnie James Dio fan but always with much respect I never was big into him or his bands. I always thought of Black Sabbath without Ozzy just wasn’t Black Sabbath and the only Dio songs that were worth a listen were the typical ones you hear on the radio like Holy Diver, Rainbow In The Dark and Last In Line.
Looking at this Anthology you’ll find the span of RJD’s career Elf, Rainbow, Black Sabbath and Dio. Honestly I’m not into the Elf years, however when I started getting into the Black Sabbath years I found that I have been missing out on some great music. Moving into Rainbow you see a few songs from that era like Man On The Silver Mountain, Long Live Rock And Roll and Starstruck. The second disk holding only Dio years has some great songs on it too. Dream Evil, Strange Highways, and Stand Up And Shout to name a few are some greats as well.
If your a Dio fan or just don’t know if you are give Stand Up And Shout a listen and see if your missing out on good classic metal.

I’ll be honest, and I’d say I’m the same. I also thought that the only Dio song that’s worth listening to was “Holy Diver.” But they definitely have some other great songs, and I’ll try to check out Stand Up and Shout: The Dio Anthology.

how can you say the only song worth listening to is holy diver. dio has a great voice, lyrics are 2nd to none and the music is alway top notched. dio dont get the respect he should. starting with elf. some great music on those cd’s. Pick them up if you can, or borrow them from a friend.then rainbow, black sabbath, then his own band. that dont include all the guess appearances he has done. metal music would not be where it is now if dio was not around!!!!!! “Ltc”

I would recommend picking up Black Sabbath: The Dio Years as well. All hail his name. \m/

I know this is the equivalent to heavy metal blasphemy but I always thought the black sabbath stuff with Dio was far better then the Ozzy black Sabbath stuff. Not only are the songs better, the live show is better too.

that is blaspheme. But look at it this way, both Black Sabbath Ozzy and Black Sabbath Dio bring two entirely different sounds.
Trench, thats what I planned on buying and then I saw this and when with this instead

if you ignore Dio your pretty much missing out on the best metal has to offer. Dio era Sabbath produced two of metal best albums (H&H, MR). Dio era Rainbow produced metal’s most epic song (Stargazer).
