ESP LTD F-54 Bass Guitar

by Scott on May 10th, 2008

ltd bass My 11th anniversary was last Monday, May 5th. I bought my wife a nice Kitchen Aid mixer that she’s been wanting for the longest time and I was kind of up in the air on what I wanted as my gift. I’ve been contemplating buying a bass guitar for a long time. Waiting to find something that I like and that I’m actually going to play. So after cruising a bunch of pawn shops today we finally went to a local Music franchise today called Redphish Music (Smithfield, NC. A great store with really cool staff) and I saw this bass sitting there and gave it a shot. I saw this ESP LTD f-54 4 string bass guitar awhile back when I went in there to check out Dunlop Crybaby pedals. It had just arrived and when they open the box it had a scratch on it so they said back then that they were going to put it up for sale as a scratch and dent special. To my luck it was still there and I got it for about 50 bucks cheaper than you can find it in other stores. I like it so far. It has a nice narrow, smooth neck and sounds great through a regular guitar amp…the bass amp will have to come at another time when I can afford it. I’ll post other pictured of my electric 6 strings some other time. After that we went and watched Iron Man. If you haven’t seen the Iron Man Movie go check it out. Robert Downey Jr. did a great job in the role as Tony Stark.

That’s a real nice unit man, I’ve got a red ESP LTD F-104 that’s damn near identical in style, it’s just got a double pickup system and two extra knobs (volume and tone for the second pickup, obviously) and trust me, you’ll love how it sounds when you get it into a bass amp. It’s also a lot lighter and mean-looking than my old strat style P-Bass so that’s another bonus. Nice buy man, I know it won’t let ya down. And I agree, Iron Man was a sweet flick.

I’ve seen the f-104 online, very nice. I like the balance of it and it sits nice on your leg when your sitting down. The hardest thing for me right now is getting use to the wide frets and space between strings. I saw a nice Ibanez 5 sting at a pawn shop that I like but they wanted way too much for it and the back was beat to hell.

I wouldn’t say I know how to play bass. It’s just something I’m trying out. I have 3 guitars and a nice amp but there again I’m nothing great on guitar either.
