Gibson.com’s 5 Worst Trends In Music Today

by User ImageMetal Martyr on August 25th, 2008

Jonah Bayer over at Gibson.com’s Lifestyle section gets it. Every one of these are spot on and I couldn’t agree with him more. Here they are again and with my opinion on each. Or you can say ‘To hell with my opinion’ and click the link at the bottom and check out Jonah Bayer’s take on them. I suggest doing that anyway.

Swoop Hair: I want to know who started this trend. Then I’d like to go back in time and kindly talk him out of it…with a baseball bat.

Deep V-neck Tee’s- Seriously…you wear these?

Full Sleeve tat’s: How many times have you looked at old pictured of metal icons like Kerry King and such and not see a single tattoo on their arms in their younger days, and it took at least two or three albums before you would start to see progress of a sleeve. These days kids are getting them before they even get signed. And it’s all generic flash as if they walked in and told the artists to pick all the most popular flash tats and fill it up. WTF?

Pop Covers- Every now and then it’s kind of cool to hear a classic pop song covered by a band…but these days bands use them to get themselves heard because…, well because their music sucks and that’s the only way they are going to get heard.

Ridiculously long song titles: Papyrus… need I say more? Maybe once in awhile and if it’s clever enough, but it’s not cool and really…it never was.

I can probably think of more stupid trends, so keep an eye out for that sometime.

dear god the v necks, i’m just curious, did someone look at a girl wearing one and go “that’d look better on scrawny pale guys”?

the problem with tattoos now, is most people think that is the fastest way to become noticable and cool. as much as i want one, i don’t want people to ask me in 15 years what my arm tattoo was supposed to be. taking up your full arm when you are young is just stupid.

Yeah, Guyliner is eyeliner that men wear and they call it that to make themselves feel less feminine.

But they will wear skinny spants ans someimes womens pants. I like low cut jeans, but not so low as it’s showing the upper part of pubic area like a woman does. Also the small hoodies that barely fit.

That reminds me, when I went to thrash and burn there was this dude about to by a Parkway Drive t-shirt and he wanted it in a small. Now let me explain. I wear a medium usually and sometimes i’m between a medium and a large. This dude was about the same size as me and he wasn’t in great shape. He wasn’t in bad shape, but not fit. He was buying these small shirts for himself….and of course he had swooped hair. I’m always afraid to buy a medium because I’m afraid that it will shrink as most concert tees do. If I were to buy a small and wash it , it would look as if I’m wearing a babydoll tee. Unless this dude doesn’t wash them, I don’t know. I can understand if you want an athletic fit type shirt if you’re in good shape. Flaunt what you’ve got, if you’ve got it, whether you’re a man or woman. But don’t try to buy a small tee when it’s going to shrink and you’re going to grow, unless you plan on tacking it on a wall like a poster. I like my Concert tees to stand the test of time and last a few years of wear.

Thanks! ahahaha, it’s a funny word lol

If history repeats itself, next trend might cut-off Tshirt. It needs good shape anyway.
