Haste The Day Says To Hell With Guitarist Jason Barnes
Word has it that Christian Metalcore outfit Haste The Day have ousted their guitarist Jason Barnes because he claims to has lost his faith. I guess if you’re a Christian band member you had better believe in the almighty or it’s exile for you. The following are excerpts from a statement from the band at Antimusic.com:
“For a while Jason has been searching and searching for real meaning in his existence. After several months of reading literature and talking with friends, Jason had determined that he felt there was no God and certainly no Jesus. We as a band do not have problem with those that do not believe in Jesus, nor do we cast judgement on those that do not believe in Jesus.”
“We would call ourselves a Christian band and for that reason, we felt we couldn’t have someone in the band who didn’t agree with the band’s foundational drive. Jason’s new found disbelief in what the rest of us have committed our lives to began to cause disunity within the band and as a result, we prayed and talked about it and felt like God was saying it wasn’t time for Haste the Day to come to an end. Thusly, We asked Jason to leave.”
So kickin the dude out of the band is not casting judgement? I beg to differ. You’re a band but you don’t have to be all holding hands, Kumbaya all the time to have unity. At least he wasn’t decietful about it and didn’t try to pass himself off as a Christian in order to stay in the band. I kind of like Haste The Day even though I only have Pressure The Hinges. It’s not something I listen to every day or every week for that matter. I listen to it once in awhile but it’s still respectable metalcore no matter what the “Real” metalheads say.
Good luck finding someone to fill his shoes….I hear Kerry King might be able to fill in after the Unholy Alliance tour.

cannot understand your anger about this action. the important sentence is:
“We would call ourselves a Christian band and for that reason, we felt we couldn’t have someone in the band who didn’t agree with the band’s foundational drive.”
They would betray their beliefs, their fans, their music and their god, acting as a christian band but havin an atheist at the guitar. they do not punish him for losing his faith but they save their integrity.
