Heaven And Hell Recording Update
November 29, 2008 by Scott
Heaven And Hell, pretty much the Ronnie James Dio version of Black Sabbath , have entered the recording studio and the new release is expected out in the early part of 2009. They will also be touring in support of the new album and tour dates have been scheduled so far for Hellfest and Swedish Rock Festival. Iommi told Billboard.com the reason they are touring under the name Heaven and hell instead of Black Sabbath in this statement:
“It really is BLACK SABBATH, whatever we do. We just choose to go out as HEAVEN AND HELL so everyone knows what they’re getting [and] so people won’t expect to hear ‘Iron Man’ and all those songs. We’ve done them for so many years, it’s nice to do just all the stuff with did with Ronnie again.”
I still have not grabbed a copy of the live album from Heaven And Hell, but I’ve heard great things about it. I still prefer the Ozzy era Black Sabbath but I’m eager to hear how this is going to turn out though.
- June 3-6 – Sölvesborg, Sweden – Sweden Rock Festival
- June 19-21 – Clisson, France – Hellfest

If they are black sabbath, ( RJD said , “It really is Black Sabbath whatever we do, “) then why the heck don’t they play some classic sabbath stuff? I always thougth ( here comes the shitstorm ) that Dio was way better then Ozzy, espicially with the older stuff.
No shitstorm from me, I totally agree. Sabbath’s best vocalist was Dio, rhythmically, melodically. Five octave range, far superior to Ozzy’s. And I’ve seen H&H, what a show! Dio’s amazing, he reminds me of a shifty Goblin, but with an immense, operatic voice. I’m not so disappointed about the lack of Ozzy material, though, because the best vocalist Sabbath ever had (albeit briefly) for Ozzy-era material was Ian Gillan. But the Dio material is far better suited to a talented, high-range operatic-style vocalist… Children of the Sea, for example, would sound like shit coming out of Ozzy, much like how Sweet Leaf would be wasted on Dio’s far superior vocal ability.
Either way, Iommi is my god. Glenn Hughes wasn’t bad either, especially in his Iommi collaboration album, Fused. If you like Sabbath, you’ve really ought to check Fused out…
