Heavy Metal Devil "Horns" Abuse
January 12, 2009 by Scott
How many times do you see this? Some celebrity or musician that’s not metal, was probably never a metal fan and never will be metal, using our patented metal “Horns” hand gesture. Far too many. Avril Lavigne, Ashlee Simpson and even one of the Bush daughters have done it and it made me wish I could take a pair of garden sheers to the index and pinky fingers on both of their hands so this atrocity would never happen again…but it does. Then there are the hipsters…oh, those goddamn hipsters. Sure it’s cute when a toddler does it, but c’mon, it’s gotten way out of control! You seriously think this chick in this picture is listening to Venom…or Sarah McLaughlin?
Awhile back The Onion published a spoof on the abuse of the metal horns. “The Supreme Metal Council” or the SMC took this matter quite seriously:
The SMC convened for a special session after Nikki Sixx, Overlord Of Glam Metal Affairs, was sent hard photographic evidence of metal-sign abuse across the nation. Sixx’s fellow high priests said they were “shocked,” calling it “one of the most serious affronts to metal’s integrity since the rise of rap-metal in the late 1990s.”
SMC President, Tony Iommi weighed his concerns on the matter even more deeply:
He said he worries that metal standards have been on the decline for so long that few have any clear idea as to what is metal and what is not.
You can read more of this great article at The Onion. But if you really want to make a difference, try telling those “Non-metal” people that use our sacred sign that it’s no longer cool and convince them that the new cool gesture is simply the Vulcan Salute. Don’t tell them it’s the Vulcan salute though, cause then you’ll just look like a nerd.
Read the article, you’ll get a good laugh.

HA HA HA HA!!!!!!!!!!
I’m a Trekkie so this post was funny on all kinds of levels, lol!!!
Live long and prosper…I think.
i thought i had read this premise before , did you link the onion on this story a while back?
not that I recall, this is the first time I read this article. But now you have me curious. Is my mind getting old and feeble?
I can’t find anywhere where I have mentioned this and the only other The Onion reference I have made was this one.
I hate that shit. The worst is when you’re at a show/concert that is CLEARLY not metal, and you have people doing that. I’d ALMOST rather see those people waving lighters around instead.
i have only visited the onion once or twice before , i must have seen that artical, i just assumed you linked it and that is why i went there.
Sorry
Well, I posted about close to 1200 posts last year so you had me wondering if perhaps I had already wrote something like this…maybe I read something on it somewhere before, hell I don’t know. I’m bound to rewrite something sooner or later. Hopefully if that ever does happen, I write it better than I did the first time. lol. Hopefully I didn’t kind of repeat or copy someone Else’s article, cause I’m sure I’m not the first to write about it.
