I Hate Metalcore!!!
Another statement I’m tired of hearing. I get tired of hearing people saying how much they hate this sub-genre and that sub-genre. Most of them have not even heard a lot of the bands that are slung into that category. I’m guilty…I did it with black metal. Then I heard some stuff that I liked and realized how stupid of me to talk trash about something I didn’t know much about. And then some douche called me a poser.I think some people hear one band that gets pushed into this subgenre and just assume that all the bands that are in this genre or associated with it, suck. They get this thought in their head that if they listen to something outside of their favorite genre, they will be deemed uncool. WHO CARES. If you like it and it’s not a total pile of dung then be proud of it.You want something to hate, hate Britney Spears, hate Amy Winehouse, hate all the talentless media whores that get more sponsors, more press and do so much stupid sh*t to draw attention to themselves while all the metal bands are out there busting their asses just trying to spread their music and make a little money while they are at it. Hate the cookie cutter punk-pop pecker-heads polluting the airwaves of every video channel and radio wave all over the world.
I may talk a lot of sh*t about some bands and band members here and there but I would stick my neck out any time in defense of Metal bands to any trash talking ass-bag who thinks that Metal is garbage and start running his mouth. I may not have the almighty “Metal” look to me…but god-damn I love this sh*t!
I hate this imbeded image and image use limitation crap…there’s something I hate!

you have no idea how much I agree with you there. but yea…there are so many people around my school who talk so much shit about different sub-genres. I’ve learned to just avoid their ignorant comments.

The hardest thing about even trying to hate metalcore is finding two people who can agree on a definition of it … or at the very least on a list of bands who all qualify for the genre. I try to judge each song and album on its own merits - genres are a useful descriptive shortcut (especially for us reviewers), but using them as battle lines is pointless.

So true, Paul. So many bands are thrown into this genre because people honestly don’t know where else to put them. Metal core is supposed to be a mix of Metal and Harcore, if you didn’t read into the lyrics most of it just sounds like metal to me. I totally understand why some people hate nu-metal, because there was just so many aweful bands thats used metal in such a foul way, but there are so many great bands in nu-metal that these days just sound more metal. I don’t know where I’m going with this. I better get back to work before I get fired.

On another note, I could have tecnorati tagged this comment with Britney and amy’s name in hopes to draw more pageviews from the ones that do idolize them, but I don’t want those people here and that would make me no better than those previously named celebs.

I too just don’t see the point in all the sub genres. I like to think of metal in genral. Is it heavy?? It’s probably metal. As for hating nu-metal, I think it is stupid. Are Korn and Slipknot not heavy just because their albums sell a million copies? I have always thought it was stupid not to like some band just because they are popular.

I find some of the sub-genres useful, but christ! I think people go way overboard on it sometimes. I have to agree with Paul. They are useful when be descriptive when doing reviews, but when it starts to go over the top it just seems like a new way to either sell records or make something sound more interesting than it really is. When Korn exploded on to the scene with Blind it was the newest greatest thing because things were getting a bit stale. Then their popularity soared and people started to hate that and them. The same thing happened with Slipknot. Like I said before, Slipknot’s sound has change from album to album and started sounding more metal than nu-metal but people that hated them from the get go didn’t bother giving the new stuff a chance and continue to hate in fear of being a sell out or looking stupid because they like something that they didn’t like before. Swallow your pride, STFU and bang your head!

[…] MetalMartyr writes how tired it is to hear people saying “I hate metalcore”. In fact, it is tired to hear people complaining how they hate this metal genre and that metal genre. I agree with Scott (the author of MetalMartyr.Com). Many times when people say they hate this and that genre, they actually don’t have much idea of the genre. It appears that many die hard metalheads hate metalcore. Why? Well, I’m not sure, but I guess the reason is that metalcore is more for the masses than thrash, death and especially black metal. I personally enjoy melodic death metal the most, but I am also fan of many thrash, black, power and even metalcore bands. I am not into Linkin Park, which I consider more rock, but I enjoy Bullet For My Valentine very much. […]
