I Was Hoping To Go Two Whole Days Without Metallica News But…
Somehow I held myself back from posting any Metallica news yesterday and I probably could have done it today if there wasn’t two complete reviews of Death Magnetic, Lars talking about how Mustaine, Dallas Coyle talking about Metallica over at Metalsucks, and lastly Rick Ruben boasting about the new album. So screw it. I’ll round it all up.
The Quietus posted a full review of Death Magnetic and it hasn’t been requested to be removed yet. I guess you have to post a good review in order for Metallica’s management to not flex their legal muscles and ask you to take it down. Do we have to get permission to post reviews for Metallica these days?
Rick Ruben talks during a Missionmetallica.com video saying: “I think, based on the way you guys are playing the songs, the actual tracking of the songs is gonna happen very quickly,” Rubin can be heard saying in the video. “It’s gonna be on, and it’s gonna be on fire. Everyone’s gonna be looking at each other and I think it’s gonna be amazing. It’s not gonna be a boring, laborious… It’s gonna be all worked out. We’re gonna know what it is. You can practice as much as you want and it’s gonna be on fire; it’s gonna be great. And it’ll sound like it. It’s not gonna sound put together — it’ll sound like this explosion of energy, of people staring at each other and really feeding off each other’s vibe. That’s what it’s gonna be.” (Thanks Blabbermouth)
UK Magazine Terrorizer reviewed Death Magnetic. Here’s a little bit of what writer Stavros Pamballis says: “If you could timewarp back to 1983 with a copy of ‘Death Magentic’ in your hands and play it to the spotty, longhaired brats who’d just finished recording ‘Kill ‘Em All’, they would have no problem at all recognizing themselves in its epic song structures, jaw-dropping guitar work (all buzzsaw guitars and face-melting solos) and sheer whiplash-inducing energy. In fact, they’d probably be impressed. That’s right kids, for once, you can believe the hype: ‘Your’ METALLICAare back and they’ve brought their balls with them this time.”
Lars talks about Dave Mustaine in an interview with The Quietus. The part where he talks about Dave saying “Lars is an asshole” is something that everyone can agree on. He also mentions how Mustaine was only in Metallica for ten months…but neglects to mention that Dave (Co)wrote almost every song on Kill ‘Em All
Lastly Dallas Coyle’s latest edition of The Hard R over at Metalsucks talks about Metallica and how much of a fan he is, but has become and “opinionated asshole” (his words) since starting the weekly blog submission over there.
I’m still skeptical of positive reviews on any new Metallica album. We’ve heard it all before and have been disappointed so everyone has every right to be skeptical. Honestly I will probably buy it when it comes out. While I haven’t done any back flips over the new songs they have posted, I haven’t exactly hated them. However if I buy it and I like it then I will do a review and say so…and if I don;t like it then you know what to expect. Cheers!

I think everybody should be skeptical about all the reviews you write as well Scott. IMO Your one of the only reviewers I know of that is so damned biased towards a particular band it’s not funny.
