I’m Just Not Down With The Sickness
March 3, 2009 by Scott
I’m going to share a little story with you really quick. About two and a half years ago I was driving down the street when I see something off of the side of the road. I stopped hoping that it’s one of those cash bags that a pizza delivery person might have left on top of their car on their way to the bank late at night and maybe it slipped off and it’s full of cash. Unfortunately it wasn’t. What it was, was a caselogic book full of cds. Unfortunately it was full of a bunch of garbage with the exception of Tool’s Undertow, A Perfect Circle’s Thirteenth Step and Disturbed’s The Sickness.
Tool and A Perfect Circle I can really dig, but Disturbed has never done anything for me. They put on a good show at Mayhem Fest last year, but that was about it. While I was out yesterday I started rummaging through the console of my car and found the Disturbed CD. I figured “What the hell”, and put it in my cd player, thinking that maybe it might grow on me like other bands have. I can try to be open minded about things like this every now and then. My wife got back in to the car and I started to drive down the road and was about 3 songs in to the cd. I violently pressed the eject button, put the passenger-side window down a tad and flung that bastard out the window to ensure that I would never make that mistake again.

that is kind of funny. I don’t mind Disturbed… I just mind that particular album. I own others, just not that one.
Should have never picked that CD up to begin with……..what did we learn??????
I learned three things.
1) I really, truly don’t like Disturbed.
2) Some things just aren’t meant to be
and
3) if you’re good you only need to crack a window open a few inches and it’s all in the wrist.
I’m glad I never paid for that cd. I guess there was a reason that It had sat in my console, forgotten about for that long.
Sucks that you tossed it out after only getting to Stupify. The best tracks on that album easily start at number 5 and work their way to the end. I actually prefer The Sickness to Indestructable
I Think it’s mainly the fact that Disturbed is just one of those bands that I can’t get in to. I figured I’d give it another shot but it didn’t work out and I was very irritable that day, so that probably didn’t help much.
That’s too funny! I once did something similar, but it involved my little sister’s copy of an Avril Lavigne CD. I tossed that thing in the garbage and told her that she’d thank me later in life.
i can just imagine some poor-emo-wanna-be-hardcore sitting by the side of the road with a single tear running down his face when that happened
(i’m sure you get the reference)
lol
disturbed = mall metal.
it’s “pleasant”, to be extremely generous, but so manufactured and protools-ed that it’s like eating a rice cake.
plus i hate that dude’s voice, and there’s like 500 other bands with that exact same voice.
Bill,
Tell me the 500 other bands with the exact same voice. Disturbed just like System Of A Down have unique vocals for Nu Metal in Dave and Serj. I was really big on Nu Metal when it was popular and while i liked alot of nu metal bands i don’t remember any that had vocals reminiscent of Disturbed’s.
disturbed is catchy for people who pee their pants in terror at the sound of real metal bands.to quote white trash rob from blood for blood “their just a bunch of white boy limp bizgit jerkoffs” who get hard at the sound of disturbed talking about how much their lives suck
@ mike
haha for a second i thought you were serious.
Omg, i’m starting to believe that David Draiman must have have fucked your mother in the ass so hard and jizzed on her face so bad that it pissed you off for a lifetime. Don’t like them? Hate them? So bad that you would throw cocktail molotovs at them in a gig? Then WHY don’t you please just stop minding what they do, what they don’t do, what they say, etc.
You dislike them, everyone ‘got it already, then why giving them attention? jeez, you just look like one of those jealous little girls whining for no reason at all.

Wow!! And now the disturbed ones come out of the woodwork. The only fans that you get a more rabid reaction out of are the Maggots. Dave and crew should kiss all of their fans asses because they are the only ones willing to be abused by the rest of the metal community.
@Sruoy…..and what is it that you sound like???
@ sruoy
lol speaking of blabbermouth
@ alec
does disturbed really have like… a fanbase? i mean i guess nickelback and godsmack have fanbases too, but like… really?
I actually thought I went pretty easy on them. I never said that I hated them and I never said they sucked. I just said that I tried getting in to them but my better judgment took care of things for me.
BTW Pu, your zipper is down on your nu-metal pants. No, no…the other zipper. No, not that one, the OTHER zipper. The one next to the chain. No, no, the other chain. Not that chain, the other cha-…oh, never mind.
@bill….more like a girl scout troop than anything else or a sorority
@Scott…..I just got the evil eye from our CEO for laughing out loud and disrupting the office. That’s too funny!!
@Alec, yes, because the metal “community” comprehends only the black/death metal genre. I’m not sure, but i guess that it’s way cocky of you to talk in behalf of the whole metal community, hence i think that there are many people that disagree with you, not only the nu-metal fans (and btw, i’m not one of those, i simply like Disturbed but i dislike bands like Slipknot, Korn) but all the other kind of metal fans. Oh, and btw, nice joke “@Sruoy…..and what is it that you sound like???” Here’s one for you: read my “name” backwards =) yeah, it’s practical as well and childish, but it does suit you
@bill
Every band, no matter how awful it may sound to you, has it fan base which is not necessarily made up of mentally handicapped individuals like Alec, or “girl scout troop” or “a sorority” (well, apart from Hip-Hop fans & alike)
@Scott
It was not just this particular entry (in fact, you’re right, for someone that doesn’t like them -but, nevertheless, writes about how bad they are from time to time- you “went pretty easy on them” this time), but the fact that when, sometimes, i receive the idiomag newsletter and there’s something on Disturbed, i click on it expecting some news or gigs related to them, i redirects to me to this Disturbed-hate-blog with crappy articles like this one.
I know it’s a free country (mine is, and somehow i assumed you’re from the States, so yours would be, as well) but if you do not appreciate them, why writting hate shit about them, or commenting what David Draiman says or doesn’t say in interviews? Is it an obcession? Maybe it’s not your fault that idiomag grabs your articles (Disturbed related) and hotlinks them to the Disturbed fans, so in a matter of respect, would you stop it? Unless it does give you a purpose to your life and it makes your day brighter: in that case, let not my words prevent you from reaching your happiness and fulfillment!
Oh, the nu-metal pants joke!: i laughed as well (probably not as hard as Alec when he was trying to licking your ass) but i’m sorry to disappoint you: i’m not very into the nu-metal ” scene” or wtvr and i’ve not such similar pants
god bless ya all m8s

@ sruoy
wow. i think an animal ran across your keyboard a few times and managed to hit send comment.
anyway, it’s not up to everyone else to cater to your delicate sensibilities. choose what you want to read or grow a thicker skin.
I’m glad your not into the nu-metal scene with the pants and all. I don’t hate on Disturbed much if at all and unless I find a reason to, this will probably be the last derogatory things I’ll say about them.
@sruoy…..I was only pointing out that you were being the same type of whiny bitch that you were railing on about. Yes I was smart enough to pick up on the childish irony of the spelling of your screen name. Adults would just go ahead and spell it right out instead of trying to hide it from mommy’s prying eyes. I don’t speak for anyone other than myself when I say to you……go away, just go away. You won’t ever win a battle of wits with me…..I’ve been around this industry for over 20 years both as a musician and as a roadie for several bands. Trust me when I tell you that after the newness of the first Disturd (yes, I spelled it how it should be) CD wore off people began to realize they weren’t as great as they would have you believe. As I said before…..to each his own.
