Jason Newstead Will Perform With Metallica At The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame Induction
March 30, 2009 by Scott
Metallica blog, Metallicablogmagnetic recently posted about Metallica’s induction in to the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame and Jason Newstead appearance. Former members were invited to appear and/or perform, but only those that performed on released official records will be among the inductees.
Dave Mustaine was invited to attend but due to touring he couldn’t make the date. Do I think Dave Should be inducted among the members of Metallica? Honestly it’s kind of a maybe but no, not really type feelings. He may have had a great influence on their sound in the early days and they may have even used a few of his songs he wrote before being fired, but fame and fan-hood doesn’t revolve around records alone. You have to get out there and play the music. The records don’t get big by just being released, the band has to go out there and play the records live and promote them just like anything else. Metallica have toured their asses off in the last 26 years.
Dave Mustaine and Ron McGovney both played for Metallica in the early days before Kill ‘Em Al was released. The line-up on Kill ‘Em All did not include these two and they won’t be inducted. I would rather see Dave get inducted for Megadeth, his own baby that he birthed into one of the giants of metal. I would first like to see other great bands get inducted that deserve it and while The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame has various genres and bands in it, I would love to one day see a Heavy Metal Hall Of Fame, but that’s not likely to happen. Here is a little of what Jason Newstead said according to Blog Magnetic.
“There’s three bass players getting inducted, and James, Lars and Kirk,” former Metallica bassist Jason Newsted said. Former guitarist Dave Mustaine will not be inducted. “Its not my decision. I have nothing to do with that. It was decided by the band, and I think it was just a hard-and-fast rule… anyone who has recorded on any Metallica recordings that have been released to the public as an official release were invited to the induction. So, that’s kind of that.”
Love them or hate them, talk trash or praise them, Metallica have established themselves as one of the greatest metal bands and are living legends in the genre. It wouldn’t be the same and we wouldn’t have many of the bands we have today without them. With that said, let’s watch a classic live video with Newstead doing a bass solo from Live Shit: Binge & Purge (I think).
