Lars’ Dad Says New Metallica ‘Sounds like Metallica’

Lars Ulrich revealed last week in Los Angeles that the band has all but finished recording its ninth studio effort, with only a few touch-ups to be completed this week before mixing begins. As for what the band’s first CD since 2003’s “St. Anger” sounds like, Ulrich told The Pulse of Radio it’s hard for him to put a finger on it. “It’s METALLICA, that I can tell you,” he said. “My dad was up at the house a couple, three, four weeks ago so I played him a couple, three, four songs and I said, ‘Well?’ And he goes, ‘It sounds like METALLICA.’ And I don’t know if you can define it, I mean we can sit and get into, you know, little definitions about that, but he just looked at me and said, ‘That sounds like METALLICA.’ And that’s pretty cool.”
So…let’s dissect this a bit. Does it sound like NEW Metallica….or OLD Metallica? Does it sound like Master Of Puppets? Or does it sound like Load? Eh, who cares really. We’re going to get the run around, the “this” and “That”, the ‘Nutty’ explanation and the ‘all over the place’ explanation. In fact I’m sure every band member that gets interviewed is probably sick of trying to answer that question. Honestly, I can’t blame them one bit.I’m sick of hearing them try to explain it too. Lars…just tell them:”You’ll foind oat wut it fooking sewnds loyke when it cumes oat”…(you have to read it like Lars would say it)

I agree with you that the band must be frustrated of that question being asked over a million times or more to them, although there is a very good reason why it has been asked, after “Bob Rock” happened to the band, it has been a downward path in terms of the metallica music we used love, in-your-face-thrash.
Metallica are sell outs they turned there back on there metal fans so they could make a bunch of 14 year old kids some alternative music . me and millions of others wouldnt never buy a metallica album even if they were given them away . and there new album sounds like alternative crap like load and reload . its all garbage
They should sit down and just listen to the black album Kill em all though to Metallica and get that sound back into their heads.

I very rarely even bother with giving an opinion on the subject of Metalica and there so called sellingout. But this time I feel compeled for the person whom made the sellout comment is the type of idiot that bothers me and well I just fell like saying something ……….. Fuck it enough bullshit heres is my opinion.
I hung out with these guys in the 80s in the Bay area got to know them pretty well. I can tell you for a fact that for a very long time they held out and would not do a video for MTV that they have done everything there way and not even the likes of Bill Graham could make them do otherwise.
I can tell you we spent many a drunken night talking about the very subject of selling out and so on.
You know why they gave in and made that video for MTV. Cause we there true fans , the ones whom were there when they played the small clubs every weekend aka Ruthies Inn amongst others , we told them what the fuck is wrong with you guys you play music for a living so make a fucking living at it.
Even then they still did it there fucking way. Just look at the video they did end up giving MTV A few clips from an old movie and them in an airport hanger all in black and white. They laughed there asses off and figured that no way they would ever be making another video. But we all know how that went.
Now the truth is that yes I understand what some mean when they say sell out. But really now what did you want from them. Ride the lightning was an album that could never be repeated. Kill em All was a bunch of kids flat out kicking ass the change really started with Master. But was it change or growth. Or trying something new.
I always say at least they were willing to try something new. Maybe that adds up to sellout to some but who cares. These guys took metal to the masses not just 14 year old girls. Hell my grandma knows who they are.
And to quote jason with probably the only good quote he has. ” Sellout” You bet we sellout every fucking where we go”
Besides wana know the real truth. These dudes have been asholes from day one. Stuck up dickheads that have had egos bigger than shit from the begining . If you dont like the music dont listen. But you know you will. You may not buy there crap but dont tell me your not gona sneak a listen when you think noone is looking. You have to cause you know that these assholes have the shit it takes to possibly put out a very kick ass album.
That key word at the end “Possibly”. I think that’s why we have kept holding on to hope for this long, even through St Anger. I want to hear the new record in hopes that it’s a new leaf. Back to the kick ass metal that it used to be before it slowed down to a hard rock crawl at load. I said before that more people like the Black Album than will admit. I still listen to it. Not as much as Master Of Puppets or Justice…, but I will put it on every now and then. As for load and reload. I said awhile back that they are good ROCK labums and Saint Anger was a rushed, Bob Rock influenced piece of garbage. I’ve truckloads od shit about Metallica since The Load album and the truth is that Metallica fans are tired of being hyped up for a new Metallica album, just to be let down when they pay 15 bucks for something they expected to be blown away by. It’s like buying a 1/4 stick of dynamite just to have it go off like a weak firecracker.
metallica is still one of the most successful bands out there today, all you pussies hate them because of the napster incident because you didn’t have a way to download music for free? lol faggots, get that dick out of your loose assholes, just because you’re to poor to afford albums doesn’t mean you can cheat the system, metallica fucking rocks. METAL UP YOUR ASSES! oh and you retards can say they lost some fans and yeah they did, but they’ve gained a lot also, and still one of the most respected bands today. so GG, what now bitches?
What now? Metallica is still successful and respected…because of their past. Death Magnetic was ok. Not great, not bad…just okay. Because they sell a lot of it doesn’t mean it’s great, it means a lot of people were anticipating it, it got good press coverage and people wanted it for their collections. Now every magazine and mainstream metal site wants to kiss the ass of the Big “M” and call it album of the year.
As far as Napster goes, that’s long over. Anyone that is still sore over that needs to move on. But I do love it when some “super-macho” Metallica fan comes in and starts going off, calling everyone pussies and faggots. What are you, 12 years old?
