Light This City | Setting The World Afire!
As you all know by now I got to see Light This City open the show in Charlotte North Carolina this past Wednesday and had a chance to sit down and get a video interview with Singer, Laura Nichol (Yeah, I finally spelled her name right) and drummer Ben Murray. The set was much too short and why they were the opener for the show I’ll never know. But I imagine it’s hard to decide who the opener for a show is going to be when every band on the roster are great.
If your not a Light This City fan because you haven’t heard of them, then you need to put down every cd your listening to right now, hit up their Myspace page an listen to the songs they have posted there. With 2 cds out on Prosthetic Records, LTC has made a name for themselves in the world of heavy metal. The riffs from Brian Forbes and Ryan Hansen that reach deep into your soul and tear it to shreds. Ben Murray’s maddening drum beats and bass lines from Jon Frost get the pit going and we can’t forget Laura’s screams that could peel the paint off of the Golden Gate bridge.
Woman vocalists aren’t supposed to sing this way? BULLSHIT! The medium pitched screams that I can only compare to the likes of Jeff Walker from Carcass and even some low toned growls like Chris Barnes…the REAL Cannibal Corpse (and 6 Feet Under) singer. You wouldn’t expect sounds like that from a girl this cute. She was recently quoted in Revolver Magazine saying “I’m totally girlie, but then I’m onstage being this metal monster maniac”. A quote I can only say is so true from my short time in the interview and then seeing her perform. But don’t just let me focus on the pretty screaming face in the front, the whole damn band is amazing! Forget about the band trying to fill the shoes of the legendary Bay Area bands from the past, Light This City has made their own shoes and they’re some big-ass metal shit kicking steel toes!
Check out the video Unwelcome Savior on their Myspace, download Wallpaper at Prosthetic Records and BUY THE CD’S and merch at Prosthetic Records
Keep an eye out later for my Light This City Interview real soon and watch out for a chance to win an copy of either Facing The Thousand or Remains Of The Gods CD’s, both autographed by Laura and Ben.

Before seeing them last week, I had never heard of them, and i honestly didn’t know what to expect. It’s safe to say that I’m now a fan! Just picked up their album, and been listening to it for the past few days. Laura Nichol is so amazing and talented (and quite attractive ;] )

To be honest I’m not a fan of the vocals… she doesn’t hit lows very well, and I refuse to accept that it’s because she’s a girl. The (female) vocalist from iwrestledabearonce has better lows than a lot of males, and it’s almost indistinguishable.
Not to say light this city is a bad band, they have great guitars and decent drums, just mediocre vocals.
