Live Bands: The Good, The Bad, and the Absolute Terrible.
Friday I was at F.Y.E., you know, the place that generally sell CD’s and DVD’s for about 6 dollars more than anywhere else. Anyway, I found a Megadeth CD entitle “Extended Versions” with a lest of songs that vary from albums through their career. I thought that it was a CD with extended versions of these songs but I overlooked the words “Recorded Live”. When I got out to the car and put it in the CD player thats when it became obvious to me that I bought a live CD. I normally don’t buy Live CD’s because 99% of the time they suck. This live Megadeth is actually pretty good. But it got me thinking about bands that are good live and ones that sound great on recording but just blow live.
One of my first live CD’s was Danzig’s Thrall, Demon Sweat Live. To the day I still own this CD but If it were ever lost or damaged I would not replace it. Danzig is just one of those bands that suck live. It’s not so much the band but Glenn himself. He’s not a good live performer, he never has been even in the days of the Misfits. To make a long blog short I’m going to list in My opinion which bands I’ve seen live suck and which bands suck live on cd:
Bands I’ve seen that kick Ass Live: Slayer, Clutch, Megadeth, Machinehead, Pantera, Gwar, Antrax, Cannibal Corpse, Fear Factory, Type O Negative, Ozzy, Black Sabbath, The Misfits (with Graves on vocals).
Bands that recorded live or live don’t sound all that great: System of a down, Life of Agony, Danzig, Coal Chamber.
What bands have you seen live or have bought a CD and were just totally impressed or extremely disappointed in?

Saw Danzig way back on the Danzig 4 tour. Actually the opening acts that night were korn and Marylin Manson. Korn kicked ass ( always a good live show ), Manson kicked ass ( also always a good live show ) danzig came out, during the 4th song jumped into the crowd to fight someone and then left. He is one of my favorites, but he is an asshole who likes to do nothing but strat fights with his fans.

Danzig has been a favorite of mine for years but facts are facts, he doesn’t put on the best show and like you said. Glenn is notorious for starting shit with fans…and on occasion other bands, like when he got his ass knocked out by that dude from that hardcore band in Arizona. But thats where a big ego and mouth will get you.

Last summer got to see the Sounds of the Underground tour, and Trivium was just godawful. It was a real letdown, it’s like they really didn’t give a shit. Maybe they didn’t. However, Behemoth blew me away. My expectations going in and feelings leaving the show regarding the two acts had completely flipflopped. If you ever get a chance, go see behemoth, even if you aren’t into Black Metal. They were badass.

I would love to see trivium now. Perhaps they always suck live but maybe they were just having a bad day. Touring can be exhausting, especially for a young band like them…but who know. Like I said, some bands just suck live.
