Mars Volta…WTF?!?
Mars Volta has got to be the most annoying band I have ever heard. Now I know they aren’t of the metal genre and I apologize, but this is something I had to get off of my chest. I was watching tv and switched to the Henry Rollins show which was on fuse. Not really paying attention to it, I started typing up an e-mail when this most terrifying sound started coming from the tv. I thought it was just some irritating commercial that wasn’t going to last but then it kept going and going. I franticly jumped out of my chair (no exaggerations) looking for the remote to change the channel. I couldn’t find the remote and was getting even more furious with this unbearable sound, till I finally said screw it and just walked to the tv and shut it off until I find the remote. I sorta felt like Jam’s mom on Detroit Rock City when Love Gun came blaring on the stereo and she couldn’t turn it off! Please someone tell me how the hell bands like this get record deals?

Man I saw these guys when they were opening for the Peppers and I had thought, “well the founders of the group were in At the Drive-In, and I used to like them, so maybe it’ll be a gooder.” NOPE. It was just an unrecognizable wall of noise, and coming from someone who enjoys Cannibal Corpse and Behemoth from time to time, being called a wall of unrecognizable noise is not a good thing. There was no substance to the songs and they all ran together… OK there’s progressive, and there’s crap. The Mars Volta falls into the latter category, IMO.

I’d pick up Deloused and listen to the first track. It is the most well orchestrated hurricane of a song I have ever heard. I’m sold on them. You may need to focus hard on your brain, though, and allow it to absorb some complex arrangements you might not be used to. If you can handle it, it is very worth it…

you guys keep calling this stuff “Complex”. I fart more complex arrangements than this. It’s not complex it simply fast and loud but not complex. If it was complex you would be able to recognize each instrument as it’s played as opposed to straining your ears to figure out who is playing what.
Uh-oh, here comes another one of my “Complex” arrangements.

Definitely have to agree with you on this one, Scott. I don’t want to say that they suck…but…Mars Volta does suck.
