Mastodon: Crack The Skye, What Are Your Thoughts?

You’ve had the chance to listen to Mastodon’s entire new album since Monday and all the songs but one have been on the torrent sites for a few weeks now. Now that you’ve had a chance to listen to it, what are your thoughts? Do you like it, do you hate it? What do or don’t you like about it?
Personally, I love it. It’s a bit different from Blood Mountain and a lot different from Leviathan and Remission. I know a lot of people don’t like it, but I like Brent’s vocals. That’s what really turned me on to the band when I heard more of Brent’s vocals on Blood Mountain. So what are your thoughts on the new album?

Pretty good album, to me half of the songs were pretty “relaxing” but good, and not to mention the vocals but the music sound great, i mean as you grow with the songs you just discover great tunes in almost all the songs. Definitely great album. By the way Great video too.
not sure how i feel about it yet. i like that they’ve tried to spend more time on vocal melodies, but a lot of the music sounds kind of… the same. and a little jammy.
i’m cool with a band trying to flesh out their sound, and i think they’re getting there, but this seems to have come out kind of blah. the kicks in the czar are pretty good.
i will say i watched that video of them on some show playing one of the new songs — the “singy” vocals sounded MUCH better than they have in the past, like the mediocre conan appearance. and the drummer was helping out on backing too.
regardless, i’m going to give it more time to sink in.
Really good album I think. I’ve been waiting for them to do one like this since I discovered them, I watched their making-of doc before I heard the record and it’s a good introduction. Seems like a really honest, take it or leave it album. I’ve listened to it quite a few times already and I’m definitely gonna buy it when it hits the stores. 4 stars. If they were better singers I’d give it five
BTW I really wish I could watch the video, what do they have against Canadians anyways?
