Maxim Writer Was Right About The Black Crowes Warpaint.
I stated before how I felt about modern rock these days. Honestly I think the best band in modern rock these days is The Foo Fighters, even thought they are over-playing that damn song on the radio. Anyway I heard a new Black Crowes’ song on the radio today and you know what…it sounded just like every other crappy Black Crowes song. I’m not just saying this because I have 6 High Lifes in me and I have nothing better to write about…well that’s a lie. Yes I am.
I’ve never been a big Black Crowes fan. Their first record was their Swan Song if you will. After that it started to sound all the same (Do I hear AC/DC whispers?) AC/DC is a bit different. While I used to really like AC/DC before I found the beautiful world of metal, I find most of the CDs sound the same like everyone else. The difference is AC/DC while kind of sounding the same still wrote some great songs that are “Clingy”. They wrote songs that wreaked of partying, alcoholism and stickin it to the man! (F*ck Airbourne! hey are Wanna-be AC/DC, and a sh*tty pull-off at that!)
The new Black Crowes song is nothing new. It’s the same old stuff. While die-hard BC fans may love it, I find it quite redundant…like some of you find my grammar. Screw you, I don’t care. As I said before. The world of modern rock is dead. Everything has been sub-genre’d out. It’s not the same and all modern rock is more Pop than anything. It is no longer revolting, rebellious and rockin’. It’s more like a desperate attempt to be like everyone else and sell a crappy record with one good song and a bunch of filler (Cough*Papa Roach*cough). Stick with the old stuff and remember the ones that built rock and how it evolved into what rock really has become. Not pop…but METAL!!! If I was Kate Hudson I would have left this non-showering/shaving Hippie revisited F*ck too!

Man, I am a fan of classic rock. The Black Crowes go that way, so I listen to them. Yes, the sound is really the same on every album, but think about it like a feature!
I heard Metallica since I was a 13 year old boy, and as you may know, It’s not a good thing not to reconize your favorite band on his new album.
Excuse some typing mistakes, ok? Bye!

To add a little more to my post…the reason I think the guy that did the review and Maxim Magazine should not apologize is simple. When you submit a single off an upcoming album release you should be submitting the best song on the cd, both in your opinion and the producers opinion. If you submit a song and it’s crap, then expect nothing more than a crappy review of the entire record whether the person reviewing has heard the whole thing or not.
Besides the fact that it is someones personal opinion. Rolling stone enver gives any good reviews of good records. Why? because they are rolling stone and that magazine is geared to sell to the masses of pop/rock. Not to mention there is an ad on every page…every page! You sell a magazine with 120 pages in it and an ad on every page? Someone is making a crapload of cash off of advertisements. Now look, I’ve got myself worked into a frenzy!

I’ve given The Black Crowes a chance, but I can’t stand listening to them. Yea, most of their songs get repetitive and sound the same as every other song, and since I don’t like even one song…I pretty much dislike every song they’ve ever made. Modern Rock is indeed dead for the most part.

I agree with you on Foo Fighters. Those guys have perfected powerpop-ish hard rock. And their live show is not to be missed without a good reason. Disagree on Black Crowes. I won’t be putting Warpaint on any top 10 lists, most likely, but I ‘ve always enjoyed their mix of blues-rock, country, R&B, and jam-bandery, and Warpaint has all. That Maxim guy is a douche. He wasn’t reviewing the single, he was reviewing the album, and he hadn’t heard it.
That=douche
Oh, and Black Crowes should be seen live as well. Good stuff.

Well I guess that makes me a douche too. But as I said about the one song submition thing. Also when you do a review of a band it helps to either be a fan or not have a dislike for the band in review. If you like the band you are going to call it how you see it cause if it’s crap you know that you can’t say it’s great when it’s really crap…unless your up the bands ass. But if you don’t like the band then perhaps you are going to give it a bad review before you even hear it.
The difference with myself is that I used to like the Black Crowes…and then they released their second record…and it seemed to dive for me from there. So I’m hopeful most of the time when a band that has not been into it for awhile get back in there and release something new…and when it’s garbage, it’s garbage. No two ways about it.

I guess my gripe is that if he wanted to write a single review, that would have been fine as far as I’m concerned. But he claimed he had read the whole album, and the review read as if he has listened to more than one track. In this case, that track is pretty representative of what goes on the rest of the record, so, to be fair, he probably would have shat on the entire thing had he heard it, but he misrepresented himself deliberately, and that’s problematic for me. Then again, it’s fucking Maxim, right, so what was I expecting, Lester Bangs? I’ll give you the first Black Crowes. It was way more focused than anything that came after, and, coming from a fan, their discography is pretty spotty after that point. But they’ve done plenty to keep me caring, and as I said, they’ve got a great live show, and good stagecraft will keep me into a band longer after their recorded output starts sliding.

The Maxim review was bad policy. They should have limited their review to what they were reviewing - a song, not an album. That should be for any situation.
Regarding Live at the Greek - I bet the Foo Fighters would release a double album if Jimmy Page asked them to do a live tour…but he didn’t. He asked The Black Crowes.

Once again, it was the guys opinion and he was entitled to it. whether it was a review for one song or an entire box set, the guy was paid to write what he thought of it and if he thought it was garbage then he thought it was garbage. If your a Black Crowes fan and someone tells you that their upcoming cd is crap your still going to buy it. It was an opinion. I said before, Rolling Stone gives everyone bad reviews…I give some bad reviews every now and then…it happens, it’s an opinion! The Black Crowes were just worried about it hurting their records sales.

The Black crowes are the best band around in rock and roll right now. They are trying to bring back the real sound of rock and roll. Just because classic rock is considered nostalgic doesn’t mean that it didn’t influence just about every rock band out there, whether it be metal or alternative it has still been influenced by classic rock. Their new album is fucking brilliant its just what rock and roll needs today. They are one of the most unbelievable bands I have ever seen live and you can ask anyone who has been to one of their shows they will tell you the same thing.

You know, your right. I say that because it is what modern rock needs. They need a band that sticks to their form. With all the pop garbage rock out there these days at least the Black Crowes aren’t making some dancey do-little rock and roll. I’ll give them that.
