Megadeth – Hook In Mouth

July 14, 2008 by Scott

so far so good Megadeth’s Hook In Mouth from So Far, So Good…So What? is one of those songs that I often skip past when listening or change soon there after. For a long time there was just something about this song that I didn’t like. Today I was listening and I was singing along and it’s strange how I have over looked this song for so long. Hook In Mouth is musically a great song but lyrically it is brilliant. If anything just for the chorus. It’s a big middle finger to Tipper Gore and everyone in the P.M.R.C. (Parents Music Resource Center). Yeah, the PRMC sounds all nice and caring, right? No, a bunch of nazis that blame music for the downfall of society and stupid kids doing stupid things. The PMRC tried to take freedoms away from musicians and ultimately is the reason why we have that cool Parental Advisory label on CD’s. Just another song that proves what a brilliant song writer Dave Mustaine Is. Check out the chorus if you never have before. An even if you have, burn it into your brain anyway!

F is for fighting,
R is for red, Ancestors’ blood in battles they’ve shed.
E, we elect them,
E, we eject them, In the land of the free, and the home of the brave.
D, for your dying,
O, your overture,
M, they will cover your grave with manure.

This spells out freedom, it means nothing to me,
As long as there’s a P.M.R.C.

yeah, i’ve been listening to megadeth for a while, but i really only started listening and absorbing the lyrics in the past few months after i saw them at gigantour.

I find it funny that the song that started the PMRC was Darling Nikki, not by any heavy metal band, but by Prince.

  4. the lyrics dont get any better… log

  5. Scott says:

Yeah, Izzy. My sister had that album when I was a kid. Between her playing that and The Culture Club’s Karma Cameleon, I’m surprised I actually grew up halfway normal.

  6. Roberta says:

One of my favorite Megadeth songs, actually…..

And hey, I listened to Culture Club as a kid :)

  7. izzy says:

I am damn ashamed to admit this…I saw Culture CLub in concert 7 years ago. But in retrospect, it was a fair trade as I forced my wife to go see Motorhead a few weeks earlier.

i enjoy megadeth ( i like and respect them even more after seeing them at gigantour which was my first major concert), and recently bought their live cd “that one night in rio” or whatever it is called. i like the song selection, but as with alot of live cds i think the sound could have been a lot better as i could not understand alot of the lyrics -log
