Megadeth Warchest DVD Review

by Scott on November 24th, 2007

davelive.jpgThe Megadeth Warchest Contests is still a go and you can click the link on the sidebar to enter. Till then I’m still kinda sampling the thing and this morning I decided to take a good look at the DVD and I can tell you that this dvd is not disappointing at the least.

Recorded live at Hammersmith Odeon, London, England September 30th, 1992. With such classic songs such as Holy Wars, Peace sells and In My Darkest Hour, this10 song live DVD rocks!

Perhaps the best line-up Megadeth ever had in my opinion. Dave, Jr., Menza, And Friedman never let down. Bottom line, the DVD in this box set is awesome. Here are a few things I want to say about this line-up though.

Nick Menza is probably one of the most under-rated and under publicized drummers ever. He never got enough credit in the world of metal.

Marty Friedman is an amazing guitar player as we all know, but when I was watching this DVD I noticed how strangely he picks the strings. Now I noticed this a little in the Holy Wars video but this DVD shows close ups and he has a realy wired yet somehow effective picking styles. If you ever have a chance to check out some of Marty’s solo stuff I highly suggest it.

Lastely, and I’m not trying to kiss Dave’s ass here cause I’ve said this before, but Dave Mustaine has got to be one of the greatest rhythm/lead/vocalist in metal. What other Vocalist pulls of riffs like he does while singing and without looking down at the fretboard and rip through the solos that he does?

As for Jr… Dave Ellefson is just the bass player for Megadeth. Never thought he was a phenom or anything but bass players never get the credit they deserve. I honestly don’t know why Mustaine let him go in the first place but I’m sure theres a madness behind Dave’s madness…don’t correct me, thats how I wanted to say it!
