Megadeth’s Rust In Peace | Remixed/Remastered
July 11, 2008 by Scott
Whenever I get a new remastered version of a cd that was good in the first place I always want to make sure I got my moneys worth. Not that I could take it back to the place I got it but because I figure if you’re going to remaster/remix something that was good in the first place then the differences had still better be noticeable. Yesterday I got the remixed/remastered version of Megadeth’s Rust In Peace. On their remastered Peace Sells… I could tell a huge difference but that was something recorded in the mid eighties and it’s expected that the sound could be dramatically improved. With Rust In Peace, I thought that it had a really good, clean sound to begin with. I’ve only listened to the first few tracks and I can actually hear some differences.
With Holy Wars I noticed some backing vocals that I never did before and the guitars sound a wee bit cleaner.
On Hanger 18 I noticed a significant difference in the drum sounds. In fact it sounds as if the snare is way too loud.
Take No Prisoners has a noticeably louder bass guitar and it sound really good.
I love the fact that Dave Mustaine is such a perfectionist that he would go back through the old catalog and make something that already kicks ass, kick ass even more. The one thing I was severely disappointed with was that the only album he didn’t remix/remaster was Killing Is My Business. Perhaps there is good reason, such as the original master tapes are gone or something like that. I’m sure he probably wanted to but there just must have been something preventing it.

i always enjoy picking up their remastered stuff, it’s not like a quick clean up, but an actual new take on the songs which is always nice.
I just picked up the remastered killing is my business tonight. I think it sounds a little better but it’s hard to tell when listening through laptop speakers.
Got peace sells remastered and does not sound as good as original!! Snare sounds dull and lifeless and guitars sound very thin and lacking crunch.
I Think bands should leave their music alone like for instance ZZ TOP first six albums were excellent until they remastered them now I have to find a record player that works to listen to Rio Grande Mud. But anyways I have been listening to Megadeth since 1985 and Dave Mustain is Probably my favorite guitarist and Rust in Peace is one of my favorite albums and I have listened to it 5000 times since 1990 the new version sounds much different and the same for Peace Sells,Countdown to Extinction,Youthanasia,Cryptic Writings,it sounds like a totally different band I will say that the remastered version of So Far, So Good, So What is worth the buy it needed to be remastered and Risk who cares about that album but for me thank God I have the originals on Cd still
