Metallica Fans Complain… what else is new?
The following report is from Blabbermouth.com .
BBC has revealed that 413 people complained when METALLICA’s set was cut short during the Live Earth concert broadcast on Saturday (July 7).METALLICA played “Sad but True” and “Nothing Else Matters” before Jonathan Ross interrupted them to introduce a recording of “Weather With You” by CROWDED HOUSE from Live Earth in Sydney.According to EnjoyFrance.com, far less people watched the Live Earth concerts on BBC television than those who tuned in for Concert for Diana. If all that wasn’t bad enough, critics argued the Live Earth gigs themselves added to pollution of the world, and claimed that many of the celebrities involved were bad role models because they flew around the world, often accompanied by their entourages.Professionally filmed video footage of METALLICA’s three-song set as part of the Live Earth concert in London has been posted at YouTube:”Sad But True”: Video
“Nothing Else Matters”: Video
“Enter Sandman”: VideoThe band played three songs instead of the scheduled four; “For Whom the Bell Tolls” was dropped, possibly due to time restrictions.
The Wembley Stadium Live Earth show was part of the 24-hour global series of concerts being held to raise awareness of global warming.”

About the complaining, it’s not everyday that you get to hear these geezers play, so I think it’s a valid complaint. Then again, I’m a Metallica fan. :P

Sorry about the video…I never even bothered watching it. As Metallica fans we were spoiled in the 80’s and now in the last 17 years we’ve come to expect too much. After St. Anger I stopped expecting anything good, especially after I heard the Four Horsemen unplugged. I knew the days were truely over when I heard that…sigh :(

What is it with this mellower Metallica? The aged Rolling Stones have more chutzpah.

I think we all would like to blame it on age but I really dont know. I hate to throw him in the mix but Mustaine’s music has changed too but hasnt got any more mellow than it ever was…I just dont understand it. Metallica used to be the staple of what metal bands should try to live up to and these days if any other band were to sink that low they would be dropped by their label in a heartbeat. The only reason this hasnt happened to Metallica is because no matter how crappy they become they still sell…its mind boggling!
