Metallica Re-Issuing Vinyl
March 9, 2008 by Scott
This is a few days old, but according to Metallica.com the band will re-issue their older albums on vinyl. I collect a little here and there but this is definitely something I’d be interested in picking up. I know I talk a lot of trash about the Metallica of today, but there is no denying that Metallica during that era was THE band dominating Metal…and deservingly. This is what Metallica.com had to say.
While we’re finishing up the new album, we told the dudes at the record company we thought it might be cool to dust off the old tapes and get all retro with some vinyl re-releases… First up are the first two albums (duh!?), “Kill ?Em All” and “Ride the Lightning,” coming out on April 15 in North America and pretty fucking close to that in the rest of the world.
There will be two versions…one like the original on a single disc spinning at 33 1/3, the other a two disc, 180 gram vinyl, 45 rpm package all in a double gatefold. The music was half speed mastered from the original analog tapes at Mobile Fidelity to bring you audiophile quality.
Both versions will be available in the online store here and over at Met Club. Oh, and in case you were wondering, “Master” and “Justice” will obviously be next and should be coming out on vinyl in June.

The only vinyl I have is Back in Black. I bought it in 81 ( I was around 8 yrs old). Oh wait I also have a cheap trick album. The only person I know with a record player is my grandma, and she is not a big fan of metal.

I don;t have a lot of vinyl. I just bought ATR second record at the show on vinyl. I have back in black as well I bought that with For thoose about to rock in a thrift store for .50. I also have a promo copy of Peace sells, So far so good…, Shout at the devil, a slayer live bootleg double record set called ‘Til death do us part signed by the band (With bostaph) and dome other old ass shit. I had a chance to buy Kill ‘em All a long time ago but I was a cheap bastard…I kick myself in the ass every now and then for turning that down. But I don’t have a record player anyway. I just like to have them.
scott, I have a story for you. I am a R.N. and I help out this older couple in town. And for all the help I gave them the family gave me around 200 vinyl records of all types of music. I also have a record player!!!! some times even the losers get lucky
Thats awesome dale. I got some older ones from my Aunt when i was young and i’ve picked up a few every so often from thrift stores and indy record stores. Hard to come by these days though.

One of my highschool teachers is a huge vinyl collector. He apparently has a whole room in his house full of shelves of vinyl. He even has a copy of Eric Clapton’s Bind Faith (with the original cover artwork). I didn’t believe it at first, but turns out to be real. Sadly, I seem to be a little too young to remember or have a record player, but I’ll buy vinyl once in a while just to keep around.
