Morbid…Techno-Angel?

morbid Angel Logo You know when someone in a band says something kind of strange during an interview about how the next album is going to sound and it makes you think, “Uh-oh”. That’s how this made me feel. Trey Azagthoth of Morbid Angel was recently interviewed by Revolver Magazine. He kind of explains that next album is going to be “outside the box” and “extreme”. But before that he said this:

“I’d say it’s like an assemblage of all sorts of stuff from the catalog and some new influences. I listen to a lot of hardcore [techno] music now — the fuckin’ serious, artistic stuff, not that crap you hear at the clubs. That stuff has impact and it’s really extreme.”

Morbid Angel is the last band I want to hear with any kind of electro, techno-metal effects like Rob Zombie. I just want another brutal, typical death metal album like Alters Of Madness, Blessed Are The Sick or Covenant.

I’m just probably misreading a statement that could be misleading in the sense that they may go in a totally different direction that is typical of the Morbid Angel sound, but lately you never really know what to expect from a band these days. In order to stay relevant to the times and set themselves apart from all the other bands on the scene, some bands attempt to define themselves with a new, more modern sound. I doubt that we will be too disappointed with a new Morbid Angel record, let’s just hope it’s not too outside the box.
