NC Metal | The Local Scene

May 31, 2008 by Scott

ncmetal When you think of Metal and local scenes one of the last states that probably would ever come to mind is North Carolina. Most people when they think of North Carolina think of country music, rednecks and Nascar. While we do have all three of those things here, we also have a lot of kick ass Metal and Hardcore bands. Some of them are big on the scene and well known in these parts and some are trying vigorously to break out. Below are a couple bands that I have found through Myspace or word of mouth from my friend Martin and he’s got good taste in metal music. This first feature of NC Metal will introduce you to two metal bands. The Ruin, an up and coming band and The Demonstration, a band that has been around for awhile and is doing pretty well for themselves so far. Check ‘em out…

theruin The first band I want to throw out here is a band from a city not too far from me in Goldsboro, NC. The Ruin. There is not a whole lot of info on the band on their myspace but from what I remember is that they started out as a bunch of teens making metal the best they knew how. Some members had to move and now they’re back. The bands back together and they are trying their damndest  to make their name know. They have a few shows here and there and have recorded a demo that you can listen to at their myspace. It’s a rough mix, but damn it sound good. With a little tweaking in the mix and it would sound better than some of the mainstream bands out there. Check out their myspace, give the demo, Purify The Wicked a listen (add them as a friend and help them get some exposure). I’ll be trying to keep up to date with any info on The Ruin in the future.

The second band I want to introduce is The Demonstration. The Demonstration, out of Burlington, NC have 2 full length albums out already and are also part of KillWitneyDead. They start recording third third full length cd titled Accidents With Intelligence on Midiaskare/ Century Media this sunday (June 1st). The Demonstration have a metalcore/progrerssive metal sound to them. You can listen to a few tracks from Words Of A Con Artist on their myspace and check their touring schedule. They may be playing in a city near you.

    The Ruin sounds really good.

The Ruin slays all that is metal. NC has some amazing metal bands. Although they need no more exposure, Between the Buried and Me just tops the cake…of course, Knives Exchanging Hands is doing some insanely exciting stuff!

NC Metal has some great music, the problem is that the actual scene sucks. There is little to no support for acts in major areas (Charlotte being the worst) Bands that sell out every other region have a hard time even being booked in Charlotte due to the lack of clubs.

Anyways, here’s a list of some more great local talents you guys may dig.

Nah dude, you got me way wrong. I’m not busting on them at all, I think they’re fucking great. I’m just stating that there are a lot of awesome bands in NC and SC that just will never get a shot due to the shitty scene in the area.
