Old School Review Killswitch Engage: Alive or Just Breathing
August 2, 2007 by Scott
A lot of times I discover bands when they have been out for while and then I work my way back to their old stuff. In this case its Killswitch Engage. I purchased “As Daylight Dies” through BMG and took a chance buying it because I had not really heard much KSE before and figured I might like it, but I was getting 4 free CDs with it so I figured it was worth it.
Out of the five cds I recieved in this deal the KSE cd has been my favorite with Hatebreed’s Supremacy coming in a close second. Seeing I really liked it I was curious to what I’ve been missing so I bought “Alive or Just Breathing” next.
When I first started listening it took a little time to get used to the original singers vocals because I was used to hearing the powerful voice of “Ho-Jo”. But the more I listened the more I liked Jesse Leach’s voice. From the very first riffs in “Numbered Days” to the last note of “Rise Inside” This CD kicks ass!
If you like hardcore yet enjoy just good singing once in awhile this is a good place to start. If your looking for ripping solos then you need to go buy the new Megadeth because there are no solos here, but the heavy riffs keep you busy enough to love every beat. “My Last Serenade” makes you feel like The Incredible Hulk one second and Bruce Banner the next.
I honestly don’t know what else to say about this CD, it is rocks, plain and simple. I wish we could here an entire record with both Jesse Leach and Howard Jones as a duetish metal album like you can hear in the song “Irreversal” on The End Of Heartache” enhanced CD.
If your a Nu Metal hater then you may not like this band because it has everything that you may despise, like head crushing chugging riffs, melodic leads and rhythms, bad-ass vocals and no solos.
