RATT and Twisted Sister One Hit Wonders?
November 25, 2008 by Scott
I saw the advertisement for this the other day and it pissed me off. You know the “One Hit Wonder” shows that air on VH1 every now and then? Well there is another one coming soon to VH1 Classic and two of the bands they are going to cover are Twisted Sister and RATT. Last time I checked neither of these bands were one hit wonders. Not to me anyway. Maybe they were one hit wonders in the corporate world of Mtv, but both of these bands had plenty of good songs.
Twisted Sister’s entire Stay Hungry album is proof that they are not one-hit-wonders. Where do they get off on say that they are OHW’s? T.S. didn’t have a really long run as a band, but they are well known, especially by their fans for having way more than one hit. Let’s just take a quick look at probably their biggest hit from radio and t.v.. We’re Not Gonna Take It and I Wanna Rock. That’s two by my count. Add another arm load of hits and you have enough of a legacy to be more than one hit wonders.
I can’t say that I was a diehard RATT fan, but they had plenty enough to not be known as one-hit-wonders. This show is being produced by No Good TV…I think they are just trying to live up their name.

When I think of Twisted Sister, I Wanna Rock and Be Cruel To Your School are the only two songs that come to mind. And as far as Ratt go, I couldn’t name you a hit song at all.
However, maybe that’s just because they were slightly before my introduction to rock and metal.
Twisted Sister a one hit wonder?!? No way! Ratt maybe, never being a fan I only know their song “Round and Round.” But I knew of at least 5 T.S. songs even before I became a true Metal Head.
“We’re Not Gonna Take It” “I Wanna Rock” “Stay Hungry” “Tear It Loose” “Bad Boys (of Rock N Roll)” all are classics of the Shock Rock era. No one other than ALice Cooper, or King Diamond, have exemplified the sub-genre more.
I could name a few Ratt songs, but if I saw a best of album I could probably sing along to most of them. The only reason I knew RATT and Twisted Sister was because of my brother.
If you’re ever in a record store, check out either Stay Hungry by Twisted Sister or Big Hits N’ Nasty Cuts. Both of them are great cds.
I forgot to add: When my brother first got Stay Hungry back in the early 80’s I must have been about 8 or 9 years old. I thought it was pretty cool but it wasn’t until I really started to get in to more metal in the late 80’s early 90’s that I came to appreciate Twisted Sister. It wasn’t the make-up and the tights, but the music was cool.
What idiots are they to say that either Ratt or Twisted Sister are one hit wonders. Both had pretty good runs with their music. Jesus, they could’ve said Winger…lol
They have run out of reality show ideas….so they try to come up with a new 1-hit-wonders show as if they had run out of 1-hit-wonder bands. How about they just play some friggin’ videos again.
I was watching The Who’s rock opera last night. While I like some old The Who songs….that movie was terrible. Not like The Wall, that’s for sure. VH1 Classic is cool sometimes…(Like last night watching Maiden Rock In Rio) and then other times it just blows.
Another artists that they call a one hit wonder: Jimi Hendrix (All Along The Watchtower). Also Led Zeppelin technically only had one big hit (Whole Lotta Love). But both of these artists are now held in the highest reguard
Twisted Sister is probably the most underrated metal band of all time. Stay Hungry is one of my favorite albums. Also check out Still Hungry which is them redoing Stay Hungry in 2000.
