Reckless Road Guns N’ Roses And The Making Of A Great Book!

by Scott on March 12th, 2008

recklessroad_cover_big When I was offered the opportunity to review Marc Canter’s Reckless Road Guns N’ Roses And The Making Of Appetite For Destruction I jumped on it. Let me tell you first off that it’s not a biography of the band but a trip into yesterday with Marc Canter and the members of one of the greatest Hard Rock bands in the last 20 years.

Loaded with vintage pictures of the band and the bands they were in before Guns N’ Roses was formed this book takes you on a trip through history. The history of the entire band. From Axl hitch hiking from Indiana to LA to form form several bands to finally end up with the behemoth that was Guns N’ Roses.

Reckless Road puts you right in there with band members busting their asses in bars and broken down cars just trying to make it happen. This book has nothing to do with the future of GNR or the release of Chinese Democracy. Like the title says “The Making Of Appetite For Destruction“. Marc Canter is close friend of Saul Hudson. Better known as Slash and went about documenting the bands beginning to later release thousands of photos, excerpts, and band member statements in this book. If your the type that has a short attention span then this book is for you. So many pictures and you don’t have to read it from front to back afraid of missing important information. You can thumb through it, check out the pictures read the short runs and history of each band member and the timeline of bands and events that lead up to the making of Guns N’ F*ckin Roses!!

Nice job describing the book, Scott. I’m definitely going to stick this on my list of books to read. Looks interesting, and should definitely provide some new information about Guns N’ Roses (one of the best bands ever!) The site has some pretty cool stuff too.

But, I’m still slowly working my way through Clapton: The Autobiography, Eric Clapton’s autobiography. So it might be a little while before I can stop by the bookstore and check this out. :\

If you haven’t already read Hammer Of The Gods, The Led Zeppelin Story, add that to your list as well! It’s hard to put down.

Thanks for the recommendation! I’ll have to look into that too. I’ve got a great little list going now.

Looking forward to reading Hammer of Gods. I just found a bunch of really good reviews, and looks like it’s a good read whether or not you’re a Led Zeppelin fan or not. I think I kind of like GNR’s music a little better, but Led Zeppelin is legendary, and watching videos of their reunion back in December really let me remember how amazing they are!

    Scott,

Great review. Two quick things: it’s Saul Hudson (not Rosenburg), and, anyone who purchases a book at recklessroad.com will get a free 11 x 17 print of the cover image (taken at Canter’s). It’s a $35 print and it’s beautiful. Also, there are a limited number of collectors editions - five covers, each with a different band member.

    Thanks

Hudson, thats right…where the hell did I get Rosenburg from? (lol)Must have heard the name somewhere else and it stuck in my head…maybe the old Jerky boys cds..I don’t know. I’ll fix it. I knew that too…kinda feel stupid right about now. It’s my version of Tommy Boy’s Herbie Hancock if you follow. Rosenburg…jesus.
