Revolvers 10 Greatest Political Metal Songs Of All Time.

April 4, 2008 by Scott

Revolver magazine in it’s most recent issue published a list titled Bombtracks, The 10 Greatest Political Metal Songs Of All Time. They go in depth with each song a bit but I’m not going to copy them word-for-word. Instead I’m just going to tally up the songs. They are not put in any particular order.

Black Sabbath – War Pigs

Corrosion Of Conformity – Vote With A bullet

Lamb Of God – Now You’ve Got Something To Die For

Machinehead – Clenching The Fists Of Dissent

Megadeth – Peace Sells

Metallica – …And Justice For All

Ministry – Lies Lies Lies

Napalm Death – Multinational Corporation

Rage Against The Machine – Take The Power Back

System OF A Down – B.Y.O.B.

While this is not a bad list there are a shitload of songs that could have made the list, but come on, it’s Revolver. It’s going to be half-assed.

Another one that should be added:
Counting Bodies like Sheep to the Rhythm of the War Drums

Huh. I just wrote a research paper on themes of protest in heavy metal, and used 2 and a half of those songs(War Pigs, Clenching the Fists of Dissent, One(same album as …And Justice), and Rise of the Tyrant(Arch Enemy))

Anyways. I would have used Rage Against the Machine, but their classification as metal is somewhat debatable. Don’t get me wrong, I love Rage, but calling them metal could be considered a bit of a stretch.

yeah, all Rage songs are political but it is a bit hard to classify them as metal. they are more of a mixed genre.
