Revolver’s Greatest Frontmen (And Women) Of Metal
October 20, 2007 by Scott
December’s issue of Revolver Magazine has compiled a list of the 37 greatest frontmen and women of metal. I only count 23. Maybe my issue is missing a page or two, I don’t know. Anyway, they knew better than to rank them by number so they just listed them all randomly. If anyone else has this issue let me know if I’m missing something. Here is what I have. Not a band list but I think they missed quite a few and I dont know where they came up with the number 37:
Phil Anselmo-Pantera/Down
Randy Blythe: Lamb Of God and or Burn The Priest
Zack De La Rocha: RATM
Johnathan Davis: Korn
King Diamond: King Diamond/Mercyful Fate
Bruce Dickinson: Iron Maiden
Ronnie James Dio: Black Sabbath/Dio
Angela Gassow: Arch Enemy (Sorry, not impressed, over rated IMO)
Davey Havok: AFI (Gag me)
James Hetfield: Metallica
Al Jourgensen: Ministry
Maynard James Keenan: Tool/Aperfect Circle
Marilyn Manson:”"
Ozzy: Ozzy/Black Sabbath
Axl Rose: GnR
Mike Patton: Faith No More
Greg Puciato: Dillinger Escape Plan
M. Shadow: Avenged Sevenfold
Bon Scott: AC/DC
Chuck Schuldiner: Death
Corey Taylor: Slipknot/Stone Sour
Devin Townsend: Strapping Young Lad
Thats all I have, only 23. They said they didn’t want to rank them because they knew they would get all sorts of flack for it.

first post
i agree with most of this
Why is that clown from Avenged sevenfold on there? Shouldn’t he be in the hardcore edition of teen beat or something?
I don’t know brenden. To me they are another one of those manufactured bands, like a boy band for metal. It makes me nauseous.
And what is the deal with the guy from AFI??? I saw them at live earth and he was quite the annoying loser. And Dillinger Escape Plan has probably one of the worst frontmen in the history of music. Where ia Peter Steele? I would hope he is one of the 14 missing from your list.
The missing page must have Halford on it right?
I certainly hope so!
Zack De La Rocha left the metal buisness to rap. He is not worthy to be on the list. Shawn Morgan from Seether and Saron Gas should be in there somewhere
lots you left behind man…
tarja turunen-former frontwomen nightwish
annete-nightwish
amy lee-evanescence
james la brie-dreamtheater
and lots more…
should listen all band 1st before make a lists….
I didn’t make the list, Chief. It was Revolver Magazines list.
should reads whole post before make comments…
Not a bad list, but if it were up to me…it could do without the frontmen from Avenged Sevenfold, and AFI.
LTC
davey havok and m shadows are the best frontmen ever you people are stupid to not know that and so is villie valo and gerard way even through (hes not that metal)
you rock on erica i also agree with that statement and gerard way is a beautiful beautiful man along with M. shadows your beautifull
You know what is great about being able to moderate comments? Seing that two people comment and both of them have the same exact IP address makes me wonder if you have a split personality or you just need reassurance from yourself?
It’s “Bruce” not “Druce” Dickinson.
Thanks. This has been up since October and your the first to point that out. We all know it’s Bruce, just a typo that ahs gone un noticed for so long…
Could have been worse. I could have typed Ron Scott or Donnie James Dio.
Ok, for those people who bash up bands like Avenged Sevenfold, AFI, My Chemical Romance, etc., shut up. ok yeah, everyone is entitled to thier own opinion, but just because those bands are not exactly what you listen to, doesnt mean that everyone else hates them. So stop saying stuff like “why are these guys on the list?” or “Why are they in Revolver, they have no rite to be here.”
Yes i do agree that the list could of been better, and they should at least have included Tom Araya from Slayer, especaily since they used the name of one of their cds ‘Undisputed Attitude’ as the title of the piece.
How are you going to tell everyone to shut up and then say everyone is entitled to their own opinion…I’m just sayin. Those bands have every right to be in revolver…just not on this list whether people like them or not. Hell, I don’t feel that Angela Gassow should be up there. The band carries her and there are much better female scream/growlers out there.
Davey Havok is a fucking great frontman, although I don’t understand why he’s one of the 37 greatest frontmen and women of “METAL”… I think he, himself, wouldn’t understand either.
I’m a big Avenged Sevenfold fan but they are not metal…They even said so themselves…They’re just a versatile rock band…And to previous posters, don’t sh** on them just because they aren’t “hardcore” enough for you…You don’t like other people’s music just like a lot of other people don’t like your taste in music…
F-ck Avenged Sevenfold. F-ck AFI (not even a metal band). F-ck My Chemical Romance (not metal). F-ck Faith No More (holy cock balls this band sucks). As for the Dillinger Escape Plan, a great band, but I wouldn’t classify them as a metal band. And just because it’s not country or rap doesn’t mean it’s metal. Zach de la Rocha? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Looking back at this and reading how much trash I talked about Angela Gassow…and then just bought Rise Of The Tyrant a few days ago and really dig it. My taste in some vocalist have changed since this post, but this list is still screwed up. I’m wondering if I got an issue that was missing a page. Regardless, it’s a a screwed up list and it’s also obvious that everyone has a differnt take on it with the majority of people saying the same thing about a certain few singers on here. Maybe they can get it right next time. Maybe I’ll make my own list soon.
hey izzy guy
i really recommend you to watch dilllinger live, it may change your point o view.. u see : greg puciato who started just as a simple fan of the band really impressed them when they saw him and i can asure you this guy is one of the most presence-filled vocalist i’ve ever seen live (not mentioning insane) he might not be phil anselmo or danzig or so bu the sure kicks ass
I like this list for the most part. The one that bugs me is James Hetfield: Metallica. I am not a fan of their stuff but they are good musicaly. James I thin has pretty sh!!ty vocals and puts that annoying AH at the end of some many things.
you obviously haven’t seen hirax….Katon kills all
To the douche that said f’ faith no more, I know everyone has an opinon but are you for real? Without them there wouldn’t be that rap/metal today, which means no korn. Davis from korn even admitted that.
To the metallica haters, I love the ah!
Good to see shadows on the list.
Mike Patton, far and away the best of the metal front men. For the uninitiated, listen to Mr. Bungle, Faith No More, Tomahawk and in my opinion, the most original band ever…FANTOMAS!
