Slayer Content On Upcoming Guitar Hero: Metallica
December 30, 2008 by Scott
Apparently there will be some Slayer content on Guitar Hero: Metallica. I thought it was pretty cool on Guitar Hero 3 with Reign In Blood. For the haters of Guitar Hero, I say try it out. It’s a fun way to be a part of some of your favorite songs and might actually get you in to some other bands you haven’t heard of. My son loves it and we recently got Guitar Hero: World Tour for Christmas. I said before that it’s a great way for them to learn rhythm and timing and new music. World tour lacks in good song selection for a metal fan though.
According to Blabbermouth, Lar Ulrich told Game Informer Magazine that it wasn’t easy getting Slayer cleared for the game due to lyrical content.
“I’m super psyched we got SLAYER in there,” Ulrich said. “SLAYER’s got to be part of any heavy metal video game. There had been some issues with their lyrics. That gets into a whole slew of stuff like, ‘Microsoft won’t do it if this lyrical content is in there.’ There’s all this bullshit you have to deal with, but we stood up for SLAYER, and we finally got SLAYER cleared like a week ago.”
This kind of comes to a surprise to me after Tom Araya recently made some derogatory statements about Metallica and Death Magnetic, saying such things as:
When I heard the METALLICA album, it didn’t appeal to me at all. And all I could think about was, ‘Man, what happened?’
And
‘Hey, it’s not Rick Rubin. It’s the band. It’s what the band brings to the table. (Refering to Rick Ruben Producing Death Magnetic)
Perhaps Lars didn’t see those comments. What has me wondering is if Metallica are actually covering Slayer, Slayer playing their song or if it’s the Guitar Hero band (Whatever they’re called). Should be interesting. It also states that some of the other bands on the game will be Machine Head, Foo Fighters (I don’t know how the hell they got on a “Metal” video game) and Alice In Chains among other bands.

First off, I’m very proud of Lars for doing something respectable. Even the most ragged, disillusioned soul still exhibits former humanity from time to time, I s’pose.
Secondly, the Foo Fighters seem to sneak into the metal scene… Dave Grohl was shoved down both Ozzy and Iommi’s throats by record companies at times (solo albums, of course), for example… I wonder why, obviously Grohl’s never really written or performed any metal than I’m aware of. Perhaps Grohl is testing the waters for Footallica?
more like poo-tallica…
i can see foo fighters, dave did a metal album under the name probot. every song has some one from the metal community, off the top of my head, lemmy, max calavera and king diamond. think the one with lemmy has a video on youtube.
Probot was a kickass record, Red War with Max Cavalera is BADASS. Dave played all the instruments and brought in guest vocalists for each track.
