Slayer Wins The Grammy Again | Metal Scene Officially Dubs Them “Not Metal” Anymore

by Scott on February 11th, 2008

christ-illusion-rere.jpgSlayer wins the Grammy for Best Metal Performance. Now it’s got all sorts of people on Blabbermouth arguing who should have won and even people going on to say that Slayer is not metal. One fool, probably the same douche that has been here a few times even went on to ask how Slayer won for “Metal” performance and then said “Death To False Metal“. WTF?

You know, this song that they were nominated for (Final Six) was on the re-release and a lot of people think perhaps that should not have qualified them for it. I can agree, but there is just something you have to look at. These awards and nominations are brought about by people in the music business that don’t actually listen to the bands as fans. We all know there was a great amount of metal that was released last year and if you feel it necessary to argue about all this crap then whatever. I didn’t think Christ Illusion was a great record and I made an effort not to buy the re-release. It wasn’t a bad record though.

Shadows Fall, Threads of Life wasn’t an epic album to me either. It was a good album, but yet just another Shadows Fall Album.

Can’t say much about Machinhead’s The Blackening or King Diamond’s Give Me Your Soul. I just never got around to checking out either but I heard that The Blackening was great and Give Me Your Soul was just O.K.

As I Lay Dying’s An Ocean Between Us was a great album. A hell of a step up whether you like them or not. Perhaps it wasn’t “evil” enough for some people. I think Within Destruction was a far better track than Nothing Left but that was just me.

So argue what you want about this metal Grammy award. Tomorrow morning you’re not going to wake up and think Christ Illusion is better or worse than it was yesterday just because they won a Grammy. You’re not going to have any less respect for Slayer because they won a mainstream award…twice. And if you do you’re just as retarded as the rest of the “underground” turds. If it was some European Black Metal band everyone would be saying the same shit. So Slayer won a Grammy. Congrats, I hope none of you are going to lose sleep over King Diamond or Machinehead losing out. It’s not that big of a deal.

Look at the bright side, Amy Winehouse can go pawn her Grammy’s when she hits rock bottom and needs a fix. Bitch makes me sick!

Goes to show dude that people will complain about anything these days. Scene kids who think they’re trendy and immediately turn on a band when all of a sudden they get recognised with awards.

Slayer isn’t really a favourite of mine anymore, Reign In Blood was a good album but that was such a long time ago. There is a few bands that I think should get awards for being good metal bands. I have a soft spot for metalcore breakdowns but that’s just me.

In my opinion Bullet For My Valentine should get an award their new album it is absolutely awesome no other words could describe it.

Another notable mention is: As Blood Runs Black these guys kick some serious ass, they should get an award those breakdowns are more brutal than opera in a butcher.

I got a soft spot for the metalcore scene as well, but I can’t say that I’m a fan of BFMV. The riffs and rhythms are great but the vocals don’t do it for me.

ATR, KSE, and ASLD are some of my new favorites in that genre. Keep an eye out next month for a video interview with ATR and Black Tide. Hopefully some concert footage as well.

I’m looking forward to Children Of Boddom’s new release.

Definitely looking forward to Children Of Bodom’s release myself. I own every release they’ve put out and they’ve never disappointed, I have pretty high hopes for their new release.

I wonder if they’ll ever top Hatecrew Death Roll though?

Ehh…I haven’t cared about the Grammys for a while now. As you said, awards and nominations are picked by those in the music industry, as opposed to having us fans actually choose. Not to mention Amy Winehouse winning 5 awards…

and BFMV’s new album is quite different from The Poison, but the riffs and whatnot are pretty damn good. I’m definitely liking it though. As for Slayer winning, I don’t think they should’ve won. I think they’re great and all, but the last time I really just listened to them was ages ago.
