Metalsucks.net announced on Friday to Pack Your Bags for Atlanta, Georgia on February 28th. Scion Rock Fest is happening from noon top midnight that day and the line up is huge…and it’s free admission with ticket. How the hell do you get tickets? I’m working on trying to get some to give away as well as getting down there to get some photos and cover the show. In the meantime, the roster is below It says “And More!”, so other bands may be added at a later time. The show is at The Masquerade in Atlanta, which is a pretty good sized venue from what I can gather. You can visit the Scion Rock Fest site and sign up for email updates. Hopefully they are better about sending out updates than Rockstar Energy was for Mayhem fest. I don’t think I ever got any updates on that last year.

Jesus, just look at that line up. What a hell of a start for live shows in 2009!

"What a tour! So many sold-out shows and fantastic, bordering on fanatical response from the fans everywhere we went! I’d like to thank the fans in the US/CANADA/MEXICO for waiting patiently and remaining fans all these years – and for coming out in such big numbers on the tour.
For me personally it’s been quite emotional playing THOSE songs with THOSE guys again – really cool and almost too much fun. Playing the festivals in Europe over the summer was amazing, but I have to admit that I prefer being on tour playing every night in clubs – that’s when you get tight as a band and become a solid unit.

Highlights? Without lying I’d have say that every night was special, it was just that kind of tour for me – but the NYC show at the sold-out Nokia Theatre was exceptionally killer, and Ken Owen (ex-CARCASS drummer) flew out for that one so the vibe was just incredible! That was the kind of night when you wish that the cameras were rolling.”

Regarding the other bands on the tour and the people behind the scenes who made it all happen the guitarist continued:

“The other bands on the bill were all excellent – SUFFOCATION, 1349, ABORTED and ROTTEN SOUND – they all killed it, I’m very happy that they could be a part of the ‘Exhumed To Consume’ tour!

Special thanks to all the cool people that made the tour happen the way it did; Ash at TKO booking, Gerardo and his awesome Nuclear Blast team, and Albert Mudrian at DECIBEL magazine. Thanks for making the tour a special one!

The first band on the bill to play was Rotten sound, a grindecore band from Finland. Not many people were inside the venue quite yet at this point but they put on a cool show. Aborted was next and the place was starting to fill up a bit and people loved these Belgian Death Metal dudes. If you’re not familiar with 1349 then chances are you don’t follow Black Metal much. Don’t worry, I don’t either. The Norwegian black metal outfit took their name from the year the black plague swept through Norway. Now I’m not in to Black Metal, but there are a few bands I kind of dig. 1349 came out full fledged in corpse paint and gauntlets (See pics below), as you can see and while there wasn’t anyone in the crowd with corpse paint on, it was obvious they had a following in the area.

This is where things went from “This is awesome” to “Holy sh*t, I can’t believe I’m actually here!”. Suffocation took the stage and it seemed as if the place was suddenly flooded with fans. The NYDM (New York Death Metal) veterans have been around awhile and were the only band on the bill that has played with Carcass before the reunion. I had heard of Suffocation a thousand times and everyone always told me how great they were but never made an effort to check out any of their stuff. Christ, what I have been missing! They said a new album will be out early next year through Nuclear Blast and you can bet I’ll be checking it out.

When Carcass hit the stage it was getting almost impossible to move around to get pictures. Not only that but they have the fog machines spewing out a load of fog that made it difficult to get good pictures.Regardless, it was amazing. I never realized how short Jeff Walker was. When the guys was doing the sound check Mike Amott and Bill Steer’s mic stands were much higher than Jeff’s and I wondered if it was just low or something. The guy doing the check did each one and left it as it was. I don’t think Jeff can be much over 5′3″. They played songs from just about every album to include Swan Song, which Mike Amott didn’t play on. After some time I put the camera away and just took in the enjoyment of the show.  You can see a few more pictures below.
